Sometimes fun things with your kids just happen organically. You plan one thing and it turns into something even better! That’s what happened to us yesterday. I had planned to go out to breakfast with my daughter and my mom and then shop at Walmart for some toys based on the new release from Disney, Planes. And add to our collection of Cars toys because the two go so well together.
If you haven’t seen the movie, Planes yet, it was inspired by the Disney Pixar classic, Cars, which came out in 2006. Our hero for this movie, Dusty Crophopper, is very different from Lightning McQueen. Dusty Crophopper has lofty dreams but he doesn’t have the ego of Lightning McQueen. He has conviction, but recognizes his inherent limitations and then works hard to overcome them.
I love underdog films like Rudy, Hoosiers, The Mighty Macs, Home Alone, Alvin and the Chipmunks and Akeelah and the Bee. There are so many because I’m not alone in my American fighting spirit, cheering for “becoming more than your built for” which is the theme of Planes. Disney Planes’ Dusty is built for low-flying, slow, crop dusting. His friend and mechanic, Dotty, tells him to remember his metal stress capability, gasket and seal limitations, and more. But Dusty isn’t ready to give up on his dream. Which is why I loved this movie. Dusty doesn’t give up. He trains, he works hard, he asks for help, he keeps his integrity and is true to himself. Dusty is my hero!
As of Sunday morning, my daughter, Rosie, had seen the movie, Planes, twice! She was excited to go to Walmart and shop for toys. When we were shopping she told us all about the characters. We looked for that familiar Cars logo, I was amazed at the selection of Cars and Planes toys and how fun they are! Ya know it’s only 120 days until Christmas… just sayin’ …
This one, the “Wing Control Dusty Crophopper” looks like it would be a blast for little ones!
This is what we took out of the store in our cart! I love, love, love this Diecast Aircraft Carrier Playset. It is so fun – for us and for Rosie! I was surprised at how big it was, and how detailed for such a reasonable price. It even came with a Dusty Crophopper plane.
These Pull & Fly Buddies (above) are so fun!! You know it’s a great toy when you can’t even wait to get home before you open the package. But we weren’t going home – we decided to take them to the movies! Oh, and this was the first time Rosie saw it in “Real 3-D” and she was amazed. At one point, she said, “Mom, I feel like I can reach out and touch them.”
But was our day o’fun over? Oh no, then we went home and put together the aircraft carrier! Did I mention that I love, love, love this toy?
