My daughter’s favorite music, hands down is created by the Laurie Berkner Band.  I was first introduced to it when my cousin sent me the CD, “We Are The Dinosaurs” and a note that said, “Children love this music and it doesn’t drive adults crazy.”  And she was right!  I will even admit to listening to it after Rosie has fallen asleep and I could have turned it off, but enjoyed it enough to leave it on.

Later, watching children’s television, we discovered Laurie Berkner videos.  Her style of entertaining children is wholesome and fun.  The colorful costumes create a party atmosphere and there are always lots of children (adorable!) featured, because we know that kids love watching other kids.  The dancing is natural and I have to use the word again – fun!

Here are some of the lyrics from one of Rosie’s favorite.  Read them out loud and I dare you not to laugh!

Victor Vito and Freddie Vasco
Ate a burrito with Tabasco
They put it on their rice
They put it on their beans
On their rutabagas
And on their collard greens

AND you will never-ever-never in a bazillion years guess the inspiration for that song!  It was accountants!  Yup.  Laurie used to have an accountant named Fred Fishkin and one named Vito of Vasco Accounting.  Ha!

Are you ever searching for something to do on a rainy day?  Throw on a Laurie Berkner CD or DVD and wham! You’ve got instant fun.  You AND your kids will be dancin’ up a storm.

Laurie’s latest DVD release was released on July 25, 2011 and it’s called, Party Day!.  With new songs AND a special acoustic version of her hit song, “Family” this is sure to be a favorite with your kids.  Party Day! gets it’s title as Laurie and the band travel to a costume party, a birthday party (of course!), and a pajama party.  In fact, for the “PARTY DAY!” DVD Release Concerts, you can bring:

  1. Your favorite stuffed animal (for your head).
    Any kind will do!
  2. A party outfit!
  3. Your dancin’ shoes, so you can
    groove to the music!

For a concert schedule, go to the official Laurie Berkner website.  Laurie is joined by Adam Bernstein on bass, Susie Lampert on keyboard and Bob Golden on drums and percussion.

If there isn’t a concert in your area, don’t despair, buy the DVD, crank up the volume and have your own concert!  In fact, one lucky Kelly’s Lucky You reader will win a DVD of their own.  Enter here to win the Party Day! Laurie Berkner Band CD.

My favorite song is “Goodnight” but Rosie loves the more energetic “Shake Your Body Down”.  Rosie’s favorite is a great workout song for little ones – dancing is exercise, you know!

Disclosure: All opinions included in this post are my own, unless otherwise stated. In accordance with FTC guidelines, I am disclosing a material connection because I received the Party Day! CD to review in the hope that I would post about it.
