About the Book
This is a forensic thriller from New York Times Bestselling author, Jefferson Bass – actually a writing team. Jefferson Bass is two collaborating authors, Dr. Bill Bass and Jon Jefferson. Jon Jefferson is a veteran journalist, writer, and documentary filmmaker. Dr. Bass is a world-renowned forensic anthropologist and founded the famous, Body Farm.
I reviewed the book, “The Bone Yard” in 2011, now the authors turn back the clock to the Summer of 1992.  “Cut to the Bone” is a prequel to the New York Times Bestselling series, Body Farm.  Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton and Tennessee Senator Albert Gore launch a long-shot run for the White House.  Back in the sweltering hills of Knoxville, Dr. Brockton—the bright, ambitious young head of the Anthropology Department at the University of Tennessee—launches a macabre research facility, unlike any other on earth. He is going to study new ways to estimate the time of death using the progression of insects at the crime scene.  But Brockton’s plans to focus quietly on forensic research are derailed by a chilling case of déjà vu at a crime scene he is called to investigate.
At first, the scientist and the police chalk up the similarities in Brockton’s past investigations and the current murder to coincidence. But as more and more bodies start turning up, bearing remarkable resemblances to cases from Brockton’s past—and as the fatal injuries grow more distinctive—the death-spiral steadily tightens around Brockton himself. And unless Brockton can find the key to his past that will unlock the killer’s identity, the death toll could be staggering. Brockton must come face-to-face with pure evil, or everyone he holds dear could be in harm’s way.
About the Author
Jefferson Bass is actually the writing team of Dr. Bill Bass and Jon Jefferson. Many credit the success of this series of books to the unique talents each co-author brings to the story. The forensic expertise and the story-telling talents combine to create an authentic, cliff-hanger that appeals to the readers heart and intellect.
My Take
Once again the mystery and suspense generated by the authors make this a page-turner! If you like Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta, CSI, Bones, or police dramas like Castle, you will enjoy “Cut to the Bone”.  The chapters are written from the perspective of different characters and I loved that technique.  It added excitement to have the investigator as a target.  This was a great read whether you are a Body Farm fan or new to the series.
