About the book:
From the publisher:   “In her new book STRONG and KIND: And Other Important Character Traits Your Child Needs to Succeed, Korie Robertson – New York Times bestselling author, wife of Duck Commander® CEO Willie Robertson, star of A&E’s Duck Dynasty, and mother of five – argues that developing good character in our children is the single most important thing we can do to help ensure they lead happy, healthy adult lives.  Robertson explores key traits and what they truly look like in action, asks readers to select the two traits that they hope to see most in their children, and shares hands-on ways for nurturing strength of character.  Written with her mother Chrys Howard and featuring stories and wisdom from husband Willie, STRONG and KIND cuts through the contemporary cacophony of parenting manuals to rediscover, unfold, and embrace the enduring wisdom that has guided the best parents for centuries.”

My Take:
This book should be required reading for anyone becoming a parent.  It is a big-picture, step-back-and-look, long-term goals, wake-up call.  Okay too many “-“s.  You might think you are doing a good job of parenting, but if you are like me, you have a tendency to focus on the daily aspects of raising a child.  Reading “Strong and Kind” forced me to evaluate the kind of person I’m raising and whether I’m doing the things on a daily basis that result in the ultimate goal – a happy, healthy, yes, strong and kind, adult.
“Strong and Kind” is broken up into three main parts, “The Importance of Good Character”, “Identifying the Character Traits You Want to See in Your Children” and “How to Parent Kids of Character”.  It makes the book quite easy to read and Korie Robertson gets her point across in a way that feels effortless.  She is an excellent story-teller, pulling the reader along and teaching us without the pain of boring informational or preaching text.  Robertson shares her mistakes and failures as well as her victories.  It’s a good read and an important message.  Will it change your life?  It just might.
