It’s 85 degrees and humid, humid, humid today. I’m happy to be wearing briefs and a tank from the new Jockey® staycool Collection with Outlast®. Outlast is a technology originally developed for NASA and it’s the basis for this new staycool collection. It absorbs, stores, and releases excess body heat as you need it to keep you at a more balanced temperature. These garments help cool the micro-climate surrounding your skin and has been proven to make a difference of as much as 3 degrees in your body temperature. And when it comes to your body temperature, 3 degrees is enough to take you from too-hot to just-right.
Unlike fabrics that simply wick away moisture, Outlast prevents sweating by keeping you cooler to begin with. It all began when NASA was interested in protecting astronauts from the extreme heat in space. In the 1980’s, they began developing what is called “passive temperature controls” – fabrics that could control body heat without using liquids. The Space Technology Program brings space-related technology to consumer products and allows us to experience the benefits.
The first thing I noticed when I touched the staycool products was the softness. The fabric is very smooth and soft. Next I noticed that the briefs and tank were tagless – woo-hoo! I hate tags in underwear, I mean, hello! Next, I read the price tag on the T-Shirt and Tank and it says, “Reversible”. Hmmm…. I thought, the color is the same on both sides, why would you want to reverse it? Then I thought of that old joke about wearing your underwear twice, once on each side. Hmmm…. doesn’t exactly sound like something you would put on a tag! Then I realized, ah, ha!, you can wear it as a V-Neck or as a Crew Neck! That’s the reversible part! How cool! How smart! It’s also 95% cotton and 5% spandex. Just enough stretch to have a shape and to fit well as a layering piece. Another feature I like is the length of the t-shirt and tank. They are both a bit longer than average and I like having that extra coverage. This is the first pair of Jockey briefs I’ve ever worn and I love the waistband. Very, very comfortable. The band around the leg was very comfortable. They are also available in a bikini style.
The best way I can describe the staycool temperature control feeling is this. Have you ever been outdoors in the heat, and then come inside and put on a fresh, cool shirt? Then after a few minutes, it warms up to your body temperature. With my Jockey Outlast staycool tank, it felt very fresh and cool when I put it on – and it didn’t warm up! It stayed cool. It kept that fresh-cool-shirt feeling all the time and always felt a bit cooler than my skin.
My husband, Sean, tried the V-Neck T-Shirt and Boxer Brief from the new Jockey staycool collection. He works outside quite a bit and appreciated the staycool fabric with our Midwest summer heat. He liked what he jokingly called “astronaut underwear” *sigh* sometimes the boy is still in the man! He didn’t know that it was combed cotton, but I read the package and learned on the website that combed cotton is “A type of extra soft cotton subjected to an additional step in production that removes short fibers and straightens those that remain. The result is a stronger, smoother, more even, more compact yarn.” All Sean noticed was it felt good! The men’s t-shirt also comes in Crew Neck and the briefs in a Midway style.
