I know, I know, I said, “I won’t go there!” but here I am. I just can’t resist the triple photo threat: wedding, fashion, decorating. My last half hour has been spent reading the story of Aston Courts. Have you heard it? If something isn’t reported on Phineas and Ferb, there’s a good chance that I’ll miss it! The renovation of the beautiful estate where Chelsea Clinton was married yesterday is a fascinating story. If you want to read all the details, this New York Times article will satisfy your curiosity. This gave me a giggle:
Within hours of closing, though, Ms. Hammer was suffering an acute attack of buyer’s remorse. “We went to see it that first night, and I thought, This is the biggest mistake I have ever made in my life,†she said. “I wouldn’t go back there for two weeks.â€
Instead, she holed up in the nearby Beekman Arms hotel until, Mr. Seelbinder said, he told her “to deal with the consequences.â€
Hehehe. Been there….heard that!
The home was built from 1902 – 1904, for the dude who went down with the Titanic, John Astor IV. Our house was built over more than a year too! Not because it was so big, but because we did it ourselves while we were working full-time, not quite the same *wink*.
Ms. Hammer achieved a perfect (in my opinion) balance of restoring the original and incorporating modern convenience. I love this bathroom!
Okay, on to the fashion! Chelsea’s dress was designed by……. okay, if you could choose anyone to design your dress, who would you choose? Oh yes, Vera Wang. And the dress is stunning. Classic Vera Wang – simple, yet opulent. And makes the bride look fantastic. She makes Chelsea’s waist look SO tiny. Enough words, here’s a photo!
Her ensemble reminds me of the estate itself, simple, classic, beautiful. Her jewelry – earrings and bracelet, no necklace – is enough but perfect for a bride. Chelsea turned thirty this year and with the choices she’s made, she looks young and fresh. Her bouquet of all white flowers in the wrapped style? Perfect!
Beautiful aisle! When you go to the Oprah show, the minions seat people wearing bright colors in the front so the camera view is energetic and bright. Do you think the wedding planner did a similar thing and put the neutrals on the aisle? Whether planned or coincidence, it does make a beautiful scene!
Hillary’s, mother-of-the-bride dress, was designed by Oscar de la Renta in a cranberry hue. The color and style both surprised me. It’s not as “classic” and understated as the rest of the wedding. Something in an icy, blue-grey would have been my choice. Perhaps with Hillary’s coloring she decided to go with something that would give her a pop of color rather than potentially wash her out. Not sure about that necklace with the complicated neckline either. I’ll have to reserve judgement until I see a more complete photo. Any hair fashionista’s reading this? What did you think of Hillary’s hair?
Chelsea and Mark met as teen-agers and have been together for years. This photo shows that the years have not dimmed their love for each other.
Congratulations, newlyweds!
I have to admit, I did a double take when I saw the photos last night. I did not expect to see a chuppah, and the groom wearing his tallit. The photos that came out are gorgeous. Now it makes me want to go to the yarn festival in Rhinebeck even more. Each year something comes up, but I would love to see this beautiful part of my state.
She’s gotten prettier with age. Bill Clinton spoke at my college graduation :) My husband tries to hide the picture of my shaking Bill’s hand in the back of our cabinets.
Thank you thank you thank you for htis post. I was dying to see pictures. Love it. What a beautiful ceremony!!!
