This is the menu for our movie-themed Oscar party!

Oscar Appetizers

Cheese and Fruit Tray a la Francaise

A number of the films nominated for best picture have a french connection this year!  Beyond the obvious, “Midnight in Paris”, “Hugo”  is also set in Paris.  And the epic “War Horse”, has a major portion of the scenes set in France.  Although “The Artist” is set in Hollywood, it is a French film.

Oscars Signature Cocktail

Blue Hawaii

The Best Picture nominee, “The Descendants” is set in beautiful Hawaii.  George Clooney plays one of the descendants of King Kamehameha, the first king of Hawaii.

Oscars Main Course

New York Roast Beef Sandwiches on Croissants

Fruit and Yogurt Salad

Turnip Mashed Potatoes

The New York Beef is an homage to the movie, “Extremely Loud, Incredibly Close”.  When young … searches for a message from his father who died in the Sept. 11th Trade Center collapse, he travels all over the city of New York.  The Croissants are a reminder of “Hugo”.  Hugo steals croissants in the train station where is his secretly living and trying to stay undetected.  One of the funniest scenes in the movie, The Artist”, features George Valentin (played by Jean Dujardin) trying to make his wife laugh as they have breakfast, including what looks like yogurt and fruit. Doris (played by Penelope Ann Miller) is not amused by his antics.  The audience on the other hand is laughing out loud, especially when the Jack the dog steals the scene.  In one of the many moving scenes of “War Horse”, the thoroughbred must plow a turnip field to save the family’s farm.

Oscars Dessert

Chocolate Pie  Baked Alaska

Oh no, I am not going there!  Did you see The Help?  What disgusting thing could you possibly hide in chocolate pie? You guessed it.  Never mind, we are having Baked Alaska for dessert.  No connection, I just like it :)

Oscar Viewing Snacks

Popcorn

In honor of all the movies, after all what is a movie without popcorn?, and in particular Moneyball we must have popcorn!  Brad Pitt starred as the team general manager that tries to turn around a losing team with a small budget.

Enjoy this clip of the Breakfast Scene from The Artist!
