Our house was built in 1991. Â It is just old enough to be outdated, but not old enough to be chic. Â Although I had updated the decor of our living room a few years ago, I hadn’t done a thing with our dining room/office. Â I use the term “dining room/office” because the room started as a dining room. Â But since I’ve been blogging, it has become more of a room where I store blogging stuff, er, I mean a room where I work at home.
The room was painted in a used-to-be-pretty shade of green that now screamed “2001”. Â Time for a change!
If you have two days and about fifty bucks, you can update a room in your house! Â Home Depot had everything I needed – paint, painter’s tape, a roller kit, and drop cloths.
The color of paint can do so much to drag your room out of the dark ages and into modern times. Â My living room opens into the dining room. Â Because the living room is decorated in black and white, I wanted a color for the dining room that would coordinate, but still stand out defining it as a separate room. Â When I looked at the colors of Colorhouse paint, I knew instantly that I wanted a shade of gray. Â I quickly found a perfect shade of light, blue-gray that I love, Wool .03. Â The paint colors are named in a way that reminds you of nature and convey the overall feeling of the sustainable, earth-friendly mission of Colorhouse. Â 128 different hues designed by artists create harmony in your own little nest with colors like Wood, Stone, Glass, Metal, Thrive, Create, or Leaf. Â I was able to easily coordinate that with a Colorhouse Chalkboard Paint Color in Wool .06 (hint, there is another project DIY post coming up).
Never heard of Colorhouse? Â Colorhouse paint is known more for what is NOT in their paint!
After using Colorhouse paint, I’m starting to wonder what ingredients are in other paints. Â Colorhouse doesn’t smell anything like traditional paints. Â I found it at the Home Depot in Naperville, Illinois. Â “With harmonious, artist-crafted color palettes, Colorhouse makes choosing color for your home simple. Colorhouse low odor paints have premium performance and contain no VOCs (volatile organic compounds) no reproductive toxins, no chemical solvents, and no toxic fumes/HAPsfree. From packaging to paint, Colorhouse’s focus is on sustainability. Founded on the premise to create healthier paint and better color, Colorhouse’s sustainable approach has won the respect of designers, architects, homeowners and environmentalists nationwide.”
Are you ready for the big reveal? Â I’m loving the new look of my dining room/office! Â My husband and I both did part of the painting and give Colorhouse paint an enthusiastic thumbs up. Â It covered well, went on easily, and cleaned up in a breeze. Â The lack of usual paint fumes was very pleasant.
Tah-dah! Â Nice place to work, eh?
But my walls look bare, you say?
Stay tuned! Â My next project is to use
Colorhouse CHALKBOARD paint
and create something special.
Don’t miss it!
Coming soon…..
Here are a few more “after” shots:
If you are in the Chicago area, check out the Colorhouse display at the Naperville Home Depot and update a room in your home! Â
And don’t forget, I’ll be adding something with the Colorhouse CHALKBOARD paint! Â Stay tuned!
What color would you choose?

What a huge difference changing a color can do for a room. Love the color you chose.
It came out nice!! Nothing makes me more excited and more nervous than painting! I’m so picky about color, that it takes me months to pick a color! but the satisfaction of a newly painted room in a color you are thrilled with is great! I love checking out the colors at Home Depot!
Oh I love what you did! Beautiful color! I love the it also has low odor! We have wanted to repaint a couple bedrooms, but the smell in the winter I thought would be horrible. This would be wonderful!!!
