Why do you clean your house?
Or a better question perhaps, is when do you clean your house? For me, *blush*, I usually clean my house when someone is coming over. I admit it, the motivation I need to clean is usually to make my house look better when someone outside our family is coming to visit.
Lysol has started a new campaign called “Healthing” to bring to light that it is just as important to clean your home for health reasons as it is for appearances. For example, did you know that dust not only looks bad, but it can trigger allergic reactions in your family?
Spring is here for some of the country and right around the corner for those of us in the North (like me in Chicago – it will hopefully stop snowing soon *smile*). I always get a burst of energy in the spring to spruce up and clean house. Here are some tips to spring clean more effectively!
1. Put together a cleaning “basket/bucket” that you can carry from room to room. Make it your cleaning toolbox! In fact, I sometimes use one of those canvas tool holders that you can pick up at your local home store to carry the products I use most often. Having them easily within reach makes cleaning go faster.
2. De-clutter first. Cleaning and disinfecting goes much quicker if you have clutter-free surfaces. Start in one corner of a room and gradually move around the entire area, picking up as you go. Then grab your cleaning bucket and do the dusting, washing and disinfecting.
3. Clean outside-the-box, don’t just do your usual cleaning routine. Look up to catch places you may not get to in the daily cleaning, like light fixtures, ceiling fans, corners, wall art and woodwork. Especially clean the areas that children touch. Make sure to clean door knobs, light switches, and cabinet handles.
4. Remember to practice proper hand washing as well after you clean. That means, either with soap and water for 20 seconds or a hand sanitizer. Hand washing is the single most important thing you can do to prevent illness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
5. Pay attention to the products you use to clean. There is a lot of controversy about the health impact of chemical cleaners. Read labels and try new products like LYSOL® Power & Free™ Multi-Purpose Cleaner. The Power & Free line has powerful cleaners without the harshness of bleach, and can be used on many surfaces throughout the home. The hydrogen peroxide formula releases thousands of micro bubbles that penetrate to dissolve grease and soap scum.
To help spread the word about Healthing, LYSOL and television personality Giuliana Rancic have partnered together to visit YMCAs in select markets across the country to demonstrate Healthing in action. At each YMCA location, LYSOL will provide attendees with hands-on education about the products and steps required to practice improved hygiene habits in their own home, while making the idea fun and relatable to kids. LYSOL will also provide educational information and disinfecting products to the local YMCAs, along with the donation of a one-year membership to a deserving family.

Okay, Kelly, you got me here. lol Just the word cleaning upset my whole day. Wink! Yes, I should be cleaning instead I’m here.
When I clean I stir up the dust enough that I sneeze the whole time. I have to carry tissues with me, so I can blow my nose every few minutes. I hate cleaning, but I admit it’s healthier to keep the house clean, but I really clean when company is coming. The rest of the time is hit or miss. lol
I’m glad you’re here! :)
