When your kids go back to school, there will be the inevitable question, “What did you do this summer?” Â Our daughter is going to say, “I went to Cedar Point – most fun EVER!”
We live only four hours away from Cedar Point Amusement Park in Ohio, but we’d never been there before! Â When we had an opportunity to go, we packed up our camper and took off for a quick three day trip.
Here are some facts about Cedar Point that I found interesting, I hope you will too!
Cedar Point is the second-oldest operating amusement park in the United States. Â I didn’t know that until after we got home and I never would have guessed – it looks new! Â There was some excellent planning, because it is 364 acres – that’s big for having opened in 1870!
Cedar Point is the place to go for rides, especially roller coasters.  It boasts a world record 73 rides, including 15 roller coasters!  Wow, do you think anyone has gone on every single ride?   It is the only amusement park in the world with four roller coasters taller than 200 feet (61 m) – Magnum XL-200, Millennium Force, Wicked Twister, and Top Thrill Dragster.
Cedar Point is currently tied with another park as the most visited seasonal amusement park in the United States with an estimated 3.14 million visitors in 2011.  Crowds are certainly a concern when you visit an amusement park, but at Cedar Point, I was very impressed with the space and layout.  There is a lot of open space between rides, very wide sidewalks, and it felt roomy despite being busy.  I can’t speak to the ride lines.  Being there with two six year olds, we weren’t on the most popular roller coasters or challenging rides.
Cedar Point is on a peninsula with a one-mile long white sand beach.  The Lake Erie beach is available to all Cedar Point Amusement Park, Soak City waterpark, Cedar Point Resorts guests and Season and Platinum Passholders.  We loved seeing the water and watch the boats go by… so relaxing.
Cedar Point restaurants are the franchises you know and love.  Johnny Rockets, Subway, TGI Fridays, Famous Dave’s, DQ Grill & Chill, Perkins and more!  The girls loved the Icee varieties – tons of flavors.
Cedar Point began with a bathhouse and a beer garden.  Ferry boat operator, Zistel, charged 25 cents per person to ride from Sandusky to Cedar Point on his boat, Young Reindeer. It’s a little more than 25 cents per person today, but there are many deals and discounts.  When you travel, make sure to check for them!  If you stay at a Cedar Point Resort, there are special prices and early admission!
The park was beautiful – lots of floral landscaping and very clean.
Our daughter and her best friend had so much fun at Cedar Point! Â We met a character as soon as we arrived. Â The theme at Cedar Point is the Charlie Brown characters – the star being Snoopy. Â This is Franklin and we saw him just inside the park.
We started with… now remember, I have a girly girl who takes after her mom… the gift shop! Â Rosie saw Hello Kitty and it was decided.
Face painting is always a favorite for these two and we loved the choices at Cedar Point.  The woman who did it was very patient and kind to the girls.
The girls rode The Scrambler for the first time! Â They were braver than I was *sheepish grin*. Â We didn’t get to a roller coaster (shhh, I know it’s terrible! Â But now we have something to look forward to for our next visit).
Have you been to Cedar Point? Â What was your favorite thing about it?
