What better time than Valentine’s Day

to celebrate the importance of friendship, family and love?

ANY day is the perfect day for that!

Music for Little People has put together some classic songs that will remind you of the special people in your life.  Songs like “Lean On Me” performed by Bill Withers and “Thank You for Being a Friend” by Andrew Gold reminded me of old friends from my late teens.  That was the time when I truly learned what friendship meant.  What it meant to have someone “Stand By Me”.  Sorry, I couldn’t resist – that’s another timeless tune included in the CD “Singin’ In My Heart, Songs of Love and Friendship”.

Singin in my heart

The CD, “Singin’ in My Heart” is perfect for adults and children to listen to together.  Most of the songs were originally written for grown-ups, but because of their catchy, upbeat qualities, they also appeal to children.  The one that originally caught my eye was “Bushel & A Peck” sung by seventies heart-throb, Maria Muldaur.  Rosie learned that song in preschool and it’s one of her favorites.

Here’s a complete list of the songs, and if you prefer downloads to CDs, I marked the ones available on iTunes with an “*”:

1. Thank You For Being a a Friend – Andrew Gold*
2. Stand By Me – Ben E. King
3. Singin’ in My Heart – Eric Bibb and Linda Tillery*
4. Sugar “Shuga” Bee – Papillon*
5. All You Need is Love – The MFLP Singers*
6. Bushel & A Peck – Maria Muldaur*
7. Stupid Cupid – Connie Francis
8. Baby I Love Your Way – Big Mountain
9. Put a Little Love in Your Heart – Jackie DeShannon

“Groundbreaking…The label has evolved into a showcase for established pop and ethnic music artists who wish to release children’s albums.” – Billboard

“…one of my favorite kids’ music labels because they license tracks from grownup performers as well as create totally knew releases aimed at families, but with music that adults will enjoy as well. In many cases these CDs can be a good way for parents to introduce their children to musical styles that will stay with their kids, as they grow older.”  – Steven I. Ramm, Anything Phonographic / Amazon.com Reviewer
