“Mom, I’m HUNGRY!”
It’s the first thing I hear when I pick up my daughter from school.  I’m always looking for afternoon snack ideas and one of the best we’ve found is Arla Dofino Cheese and Fruit Kabobs.  They are equally fun-to-make as they are delicious-to-eat.  And, moms like me can feel good about having our kids eat Arla Dofino cheeses.  Arla Dofino cheeses are naturally good, free of added hormones and crafted with quality, natural ingredients.
Sometimes my daughter and I have different taste preferences when it comes to cheese ( I love blue, she can’t even stand the smell of it), but we both loved the Edam and Gouda we tried. Â In addition to those, Arla Dofino also makes Havarti, Fontina, and Muenster. Â Â As a life-long Midwesterner, I liked knowing that Arla Dofino cheeses have been traditionally crafted in Kaukauna, Wisconsin for more than 1oo years.
To turn the kabob-making into an activity (don’t you love cooking WITH your kids, instead of FOR your kids?), I prepared all the ingredients and got them ready for assembly. Â Then I let my daughter take over and design her own kabob creations!
I remember sitting with my mom after I got out of school and telling her everything that happened in my day. Â She is still the best “listener” I’ve ever known. Â When my daughter and I can incorporate a snack AND an activity, it gives us a reason to turn off the television and engage in some real communication. Â Have you noticed that sometimes your kids need a warm-up time to get to the subjects they really want to talk to you about? Â It’s the things that come out about fifteen minutes into a conversation that are often the more sensitive and important ones.
We used cake decorating tools, like cookie cutters and fondant design presses. Â I have to admit, it was difficult not to eat the cheese before it even got on to the skewer! (We did cheat a bit.)
All you need is fruit, cheese and skewers for basic kabobs. Â Then add cutters, and other tools (think PlayDoh) to let your creative side thrive!
