Callie Grey, is a turning thirty and that’s the least of her problems. Her long-time crush isn’t reciprocating her feelings. AND he’s her boss, so her work-life isn’t peachy either. Now, you think you’ve been there? Here’s something I can guess hasn’t happened to you. Her mom is throwing her a birthday bash….. in a funeral home! Don’t you want to read more?
This fun novel by Kristan Higgins is the perfect end-of-summer read. I laughed out loud so many times, Sean wanted to know what in the world I was reading! I feel like her character, Callie, is my new best friend – she’s warm, funny, and outrageous. Her muses (who talk to her in her head, don’t yours?) include Michelle Obama and Betty Boop!
“Thirty minutes later, I stood in line at the Department of Motor Vehicles, and the effects of being emotionally run down by the man I loved — and now hated — but still loved — were catching up with me. Michelle Obama had abandoned me, regretfully acknowledging that I was beyond help, and Betty Boop was clamping her lips together and blinking back tears. Trying to keep the choo-choo train of despair at bay, I glanced around. Gray, grimy tile floors. Dingy white walls. I stood in the middle of a line of about ten people, all of us listless and lifeless and loveless . . . or so it seemed.”
Author Kristan Higgins is the 2010 RITA Winner for Best Contemporary Single Title Romance for her previous book, Too Good To Be True. All I Ever Wanted recently made it to the USA Today’s Bestseller List.

I have been married for 4 years now to my present husband. He is my second one. I was looking for someone with a sense of humor and a man who didn’t take life so seriously all the time. I wanted someone who was a saver when it came to money, and a man who was great with everyone else’s children. I found this man in my husband! He loves all children. I didn’t get the excuse like I did from my ex-husband that he would interact with children when he had his own. What kind of a BS excuse was that? Anyways…

The perfect man would be kind but able to stand up for himself or you if need be, giving, passionate about something (whatever floats his boat) and understanding about what you are passionate about, and he has to really be good with kids so he can be a wonderful father. That isn’t too much to ask, is it? :)

I went to the author’s website and love how she describes where she lives: “a small Connecticut town with a beautiful library, a great agricultural fair, nice people and not much else”. That sounds absolutely wonderful to me!
