Callie Grey, is a turning thirty and that’s the least of her problems. Her long-time crush isn’t reciprocating her feelings. AND he’s her boss, so her work-life isn’t peachy either. Now, you think you’ve been there? Here’s something I can guess hasn’t happened to you. Her mom is throwing her a birthday bash….. in a funeral home! Don’t you want to read more?
This fun novel by Kristan Higgins is the perfect end-of-summer read. I laughed out loud so many times, Sean wanted to know what in the world I was reading! I feel like her character, Callie, is my new best friend – she’s warm, funny, and outrageous. Her muses (who talk to her in her head, don’t yours?) include Michelle Obama and Betty Boop!
“Thirty minutes later, I stood in line at the Department of Motor Vehicles, and the effects of being emotionally run down by the man I loved — and now hated — but still loved — were catching up with me. Michelle Obama had abandoned me, regretfully acknowledging that I was beyond help, and Betty Boop was clamping her lips together and blinking back tears. Trying to keep the choo-choo train of despair at bay, I glanced around. Gray, grimy tile floors. Dingy white walls. I stood in the middle of a line of about ten people, all of us listless and lifeless and loveless . . . or so it seemed.”
