Chicken Soup for the Soul: Inspiration for the Young at Heart

101 Stories of Inspiration, Humor, and Wisdom about Life at a Certain Age

Inspiration for the Young at Heart celebrates the fun and wonder of getting older with its stories about dynamic older singles and couples.

When I was given the opportunity to review this book, I was a little nervous. I thought how much background do I have on this topic. But, then I remembered that I taught the Chicken Soup for the Soul series to my middle schoolers for two years and loved to see their eyes fill up with tears when they got to that part that….touched their soul. I also remember working at an Alzheimer’s facility and listening to the romantic, funny and inspirational stories of the seniors. Many of those same feelings of warmth and laughter came swarming back into my mind while reading this book.

While reading this book I came across story number 66. Each story is written by a different senior and what they are experiencing during their retirement years.  The author of this story, Mitchell Kyd, brings us into her daily experiences of just sitting and watching. She’s become that woman who smiles at children and they smile back. She smiles again and makes funny faces. She has become that woman who wears jewelry that jiggles along and is too big and she wears too many colors on her shirt. Mitchell continues to tell the reader of other things that have made her become “that woman” and I smile and wonder if I too will become “that woman” one day….and then…there’s that tear…because this Mitchell Kyd whom I’ve never met…has in fact, touched my soul.

This book will amuse and invigorate readers.

A lucky KLY reader will win their own copy of Chicken Soup for the Soul, Inspiration for the Young at Heart.  Easy entry in the Rafflecopter form below!

My mother…who is 84, in good health, and still does things she’s always done: cooking, cleaning, baking, driving, etc. She puts lots of women who are younger than she is, to shame with how active she is!
