Calling all grandparents or out-of-town relatives… this would make a fantastic Christmas gift for the special child in your life and a thoughtful way to send them pictures of you and your surroundings to remind them how much you love them!  Picture the card below with Grandma and Zach…

Flash cards are such a great way to learn.  I remember when I was in college using flashcards to memorize facts.  We start using them as young children and they can still help as get older.  A new kind of flash card called, “Goosie Cards” allows you to create your own flash cards with any words and photos you would like to use!

Goosie Cards are sturdy, durable cards customized with your own uploaded photos.  When I created mine, I thought about the fact that there were ten cards in the initial pack.  Since Rosie is 5 years old (almost 6!), I wanted to use holidays or some type of annual milestone.  I wish I had pictures of her blowing out her candles every year on her birthday cake, but I haven’t been the conscientious photographer that I’d like to be!  One thing I did have though, were pictures of her opening her “Birthday Fairy” gift.  We have a tradition called the “Birthday Fairy”.  This very special fairy ties a long, long ribbon to your bed while you are sleeping on the night before your Birthday.  On the other end of the ribbon is a special gift.  The other occasion I thought of that I would have 5 pictures of, is Halloween!  I knew I had taken pictures of Rosie in her Halloween costume.  Voila!  That’s my 10 cards – 5 Halloween and 5 Birthday Fairy!

There are lots of themes you could use when creating Goosie Cards.  I think it would be fun to do family members, ie Aunt Susan and Uncle Mike; Cousin Carol, etc.  If your child is learning the alphabet, it would even be fun to use common objects, ie A = Apple.

The cards are large, sturdy and very impressive quality.

Goosie Cards are offered through the Walgreens Photo site.  You join the site (just give your name and email address) and start uploading photos.  Hint: although the site allows you to upload multiple photos at one time, in my experience, that takes forever and a day.  If you do one at a time they upload in a snap.  Then click on Goosie Cards and drag a photo over to the card template.  You can add a frame, choose a color/design for the back and add words.  I added the year since my photos were from each year of Rosie’s life so far!

Your children will love seeing familiar people or objects on their flash cards!  How fun!
