Are you happy with the state of your finances? Did you answer no? This book, published by Vanguard Press, will help you discover how to:
- “Have a rock-solid financial plan and a predictable retirement income that can last as long as you do.”
- “Stop choosing between enjoying life’s luxuries today and saving for tomorrow”
- “Become your own source of financing so you have access to capital when you need it”
- “Have the peace of mind that comes with knowing you won’t have to rely on an employer or failing government programs for your financial security.”
The author, Pamela Yellen, discusses many of the popular financial tools and why they won’t work, as she introduces Bank On Yourself, or B.O.Y.
From the beginning, the book is written in an easy-to-read style. There are bullet points, key concepts, highlighted quotes, and section titles.
I’m not qualified to comment on the soundness of the advice given in this book. It does resonate, at least in part. with something that Sean and I have tried to do and that is to avoid paying interest to financial institutions.
A quote at the end of the book from an African proverb also echoes something I believe, “The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is today.” Whether you follow the advice in this book, a little or a lot, anything you do to learn more about improving your financial situation is valuable.
Two lucky winners will receive a copy of the book, Bank On Yourself.

No, not really. I am trying to cut back and pay down as many bills as possible.

I’m a college student about to graduate. Being about $50,000 in debt as soon as a graduate would be a quick “no” answer to that question. I love reading financial books like this to learn all about how to manage my finances correctly when I’m out in the “real world”. I know this book would be a big help! Fingers crossed!
