Giveaway: Book, How to Knit a Heart Back Home by Rachael Herron – 2 Winners

ABOUT THE BOOK:

(from the back cover)  Lucy Harrison sells books by day, and by night she volunteers with the fire department of Cypress Hollow.  Her life is even-keeled and smooth, just the way she likes it.  But when bad-boy, ex-cop, Owen Bancroft comes back to town, Lucy realizes that while she’s never scared helping others, she’s terrified of risking her heart.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Rachael Herron describes her experience in becoming a professional writer as a “fairy tale”.  She and her agent came together in 2008 and two months later Rachael was choosing between two publishers’ offers.

The main character in the book, Lucy, works as a volunteer fire fighter.  Rachael herself works as a 911 dispatcher in a major metropolitan area.  She is one busy lady!  Rachael lives with her better half in Oakland, California, where they have four cats, three dogs, three spinning wheels, and more instruments than they can count. She is a proud member of the San Francisco Area Romance Writers of America and she is struggling to learn the ukulele.  Sounds fun!

Rachael gives this advice to aspiring writers on her website:  “Try NaNoWriMo, at least once. Join Romance Writers of America (RWA), even if you don’t write romance. It’s the best writing organization in the world, I’m convinced of it. I’ve learned more from being in RWA in the past two years than I did in grad school. Make friends with other writers — they’ll be your salvation. And write a little bit, every day. Every single day. It all adds up, so much faster than you think.”

MY TAKE ON THE BOOK:
I love, love, love this book.  It has the heart-warming character development that makes me sad when a book ends and I have to say good-bye.  Lucy, the main character,  is charming, fun and I wish she was my friend!   Here’s some quotes that had me laughing out loud:
“Lucy, by six o’clock, had done just about everything she could to think of to calm herself down…. She’d gone for a walk around the block, but had turned her ankle twice because she’d forgotten to watch where she was going.  She’d taken a bath with a lavender bomb that had cost a ridiculous amount of money when she’d been out shopping with Molly, but the scent had put her into a sneezing fit….
Owen.  A date.
It came down to two things.
First thing:  She had nothing to wear.  Absolutely nothing… She opened it (her closet) for the fourth time, hoping that somehow since her bath, a miracle might have occurred, that a fairy godmother had sneaked in and filled her closet with pretty things.
No such luck.”  from How to Win a Heart Back Home
That would be me, hehehe.  Lucy was such a delightful character, I especially loved when the author wrote her thoughts, kind of like her talking to herself.
