Have your kids been to a play?  We went to the Chicago Kids Company, “Chicken Little”, last week and thoroughly enjoyed it.  An appreciation for live theater can be difficult to encourage in your little ones unless you find the right play for them.  I took my daughter to one a few year’s ago that just didn’t capture her attention.  Not so with “Chicken Little”!  She was spellbound.  It features professional actors, and the performances include music and references that your children will recognize and relate to.  Our whole three-generation family enjoyed it.
Chicago Kids Company performances are at two different locations.  Currently you can see “Little Red Riding Hood” playing at the Stahl Family Theater, 5900 W. Belmont, Chicago or the play we saw, “Chicken Little” at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 11th Street, Chicago.
We arrived early at the Beverly Arts Center. Â We’re never sure what traffic will be like and we didn’t want to miss a minute of the performance. Â I’d never been to the Beverly Arts Center before and it had been years since I’d been to the Beverly neighborhood. Â The Arts Center has a large, convenient parking lot and it was very easy to find. Â The Center itself is large and has a 400 seat theater. Â It didn’t feel that big though, the comfortable seats and colors made it feel quite cozy!
It was fun to watch the audience of mostly children enter the theater. Â They were a few groups of children and lots of families at the performance we saw. Â They were excited! Â I looked around me at several points in the show and loved watching the expressions on the faces of the children. Â All eyes were on the stage and they were completely drawn in to the story. Â It was adorable to watch their faces light up. Â One little girl next to us especially loved the music and songs in the show.
Chicago Kids Company performances are a great summer activity and perfect introduction to theater if your kids haven’t seen a live play.  I highly recommend it!
