ABOUT THE BOOK:

Lady in the Mist by Laurie Alice Eakes is the story of Tabitha, a midwife in colonial America.  Tabitha’s mother and grandmother have taught her the skills she needs to be a competent midwife, but their early death has left her alone except for her two servants.  Midwifery is passed from mother to daughter, but it appears that Tabitha will never have a child of her own.  Her fiance disappeared, leaving her again alone.  She has forsaken her faith, as she feels God has forgotten her.

Then Tabitha meets Dominick Cherritt, an Englishman, bound to the mayor of the town as an indentured servant.  But what is his true history?  He seems to have been raised in the upper class, it slips out that he was educated at Oxford.  Why is he now a servant?

Tabitha and Dominick don’t want to fall in love, but they do.  She, a midwife, and he a servant, there future seems impossible.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Laurie Alice Eakes is the author of Lady in the Mist as well as several other novels. She won a National Readers Choice Award for Best Regency in 2007 for Family Guardian. Laurie Alice writes full time from her home in Texas, where she lives with her husband and sundry dogs and cats.  She became interested in midwives in graduate school and always knew she would feature their story in a novel.

MY TAKE ON THE BOOK:

It was interesting to read about life in colonial America, and about midwifery.  It was a romance of my favorite kind – the handsome rogue and the beautiful woman – and then adding in the mystery of why Dominick was a servant when he seemed more suited to the role of a Lord made it even better.  Dominick and Tabitha had everything working against their romance but they were still hopelessly in love.  Despite the times and her struggles, Tabitha was a strong and courageous woman, making her way alone in a world that wasn’t kind to single women.
Laurie Alice Eakes spun a tale of romance, a historical novel, a suspense thriller, and Christian fiction with great skill.  This was a page-turner, I couldn’t wait to read the conclusion of Tabitha and Dominick’s love story!

WHAT OTHER’S ARE SAYING:

“Secrets, suspense and a sweetly told love story make this a highly rewarding read.” – Cheryl Bolen, Holt Medallion winning author of One Golden Ring
“I loved, loved, love this book.  It grabbed me by the heart and held on.” – Lena Nelson Dooley, author of Love Finds You in Golden, New Mexico
