I was first introduced to Laurie Berkner when my cousin sent me the CD, “We Are The Dinosaurs” and a note that said, “Children love this music and it doesn’t drive adults crazy.”  And she was right!  I will even admit to listening to it after Rosie has fallen asleep and I could have turned it off, but enjoyed it enough to leave it on.

Best-selling, award-winning children’s recording artist and preschool television favorite Laurie Berkner released her first-ever lullaby album, Laurie Berkner Lullabies on April 8th.  The album features traditional lullabies (“Hush Little Baby,” “Little Boy Blue”) as well as brand new songs to lull little ones to sleep (“Fireflies,” “All the Planets”).  The album also includes re-worked versions of some of Laurie’s classic originals (“Under A Shady Tree,” “Five Days Old”) – and, of course, the beloved Laurie Berkner bedtime favorites “Moon Moon Moon” and “Goodnight.”  “Moon Moon Moon” is one of our favorites!

Laurie Berkner Inside

Laurie is joined on Laurie Berkner Lullabies by band mates Susie Lampert (keyboards), Brady Rymer (bass) and Bob Golden (drums, percussion).  The album is enhanced by the voices of children including Laurie’s own daughter, Lucy!

Says Laurie, “I have been getting requests for this album for many years.  I’ve now been a parent since 2004, and I’ve had a chance to feel that amazing experience of singing my own child to sleep.  I’ve written lullabies for her and I’ve sung my favorites from my own childhood to her over the years. To me, making that time feel safe and full of love is so important.  I hope some of these songs create some of those feelings and become as special to other families as they have been for mine.”

A former preschool music teacher by day and indie rocker by night, Laurie Berkner started selling her music over fifteen years ago out of her living room on her own label, Two Tomatoes Records. Laurie currently stars in Sing It, Laurie!, an animated short-form series on the Sprout preschool TV channel, and makes frequent appearances on the network’s “Sunny Side Up Show” and in music videos.

Laurie Berkner Lullabies Track Listing

I love, love, love this CD and I know you will too!  Some of my favorite tracks …

Every mom knows how hard it is to say goodnight to your little one, and how difficult it is for them to understand that it’s just goodnight not goodbye.  “A lullaby is not goodbye.  It only means I’ll see you in the morning.”  In the first track, Laurie lets us know that she has experienced the same thing.

Track #3 was recorded by Laurie AND her daughter, Lucy.  It is touching to hear the love between them.

Track #4, Pillowland, has the fun whimsy that is a trademark of Laurie Berkner music without getting too rowdy, it is a lullaby after all.

Tracks 6, 8, and 19 are old friends wearing new outfits and it suits them!  I didn’t think “Moon Moon Moon” could get any better – it’s one of my all-time favorites but it did.  Wait until you hear the swingin’ moon.  By the way, if you think singing children’s songs is not a vocal challenge, try singing this one *wink*.

Zzzzzzzzzz………………..  00ps, I fell asleep. They work!

If Track #15 doesn’t put you to sleep there is something wrong with you.  The melody and music is so soothing and smooth.

One lucky KLY reader is going to win a copy of Laurie Berkner Lullabies.

I first heard of her through Nick Jr., and then I bought her CD so we could play her music in the car. That was awhile ago, though. We’re ready for an upgrade!
