What makes a bible specifically for teen girls? Inserted among the bible passages, the NIV Bible for Teen Girls has additional readings especially for teen girls that will reassure them that no issue is too big for God. It recognizes the challenges of this difficult time in a girls life and helps them grow in faith, hope, and love instead of frustration and despair.
The messages of writers such as Bethany Hamilton (Soul Surfer), Annie Downs (Perfectly Unique), Christine Caine (Australian Evangelist), Nicole Weider (Project Inspired), Elsa Kok Colopy, Crystal Kirgiss, Bekah Hamrick Martin, Denise Van Eck, and more are included in the readings. An example of a reading I especially liked was written by Annie F. Downs and I found in Philippians. Here are a few bits, “Are you allowed to make mistakes? Of course! This was one of the most difficult stumbling blocks for me in high school…. You are going to make mistakes, bad things are going to happen to good people, and you’re going to have to trust God anyway. Life is messy. Life is unfair. But that doesn’t mean you can’t be a leader for your friends, family, team or church. Look at 1 Timothy 4:12: “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in faith and in purity.” …Live in such a way that your life tells the world that you are working out your salvation.”
In addition to the readings, there are introductions to each book which tell you:
- When did this happen
- Who is in this book
- Verses you might recognize
- What’s it about?
I liked these introductions very much. It gave you a context to start reading. Even more than the introductions though, I liked the profiles of the women of the bible. As you encounter new women, there are one page summaries telling you about them. They include what her name means, where to read her story and then an explanation of who she is and how her story fits.
In summary, features include:
- daily readings
- book introductions
- profiles of the women of the Bible
- highlighted promises of God
- a concordance for help finding verses
I also very much liked the design of NIV Bible for Teen Girls. The fonts, colors, highlights, titling, etc. all work together to make reading this bible easy and enjoyable. My daughter is not old enough for this yet, but I’m thrilled to have a copy for myself! Perhaps when she’s old enough, if I haven’t worn it out, I’ll pass it on *smile*.
