*sniff, sniff*

My heart was touched by this story and I think yours will be too!

The Sparkle Box is a book, but more than a book, it’s a tradition you can begin for your family.  My daughter was instantly excited by the shiny box on the cover of the book, “What is THAT?”, she exclaimed.  She couldn’t wait for my husband to read the book to her.

Storyline

During the weeks leading up to Christmas, the little boy, Sam, wonders what the sparkly box on his family’s mantel could be?  His mom tells him “It’s a special gift, called a Sparkle Box.  We’ll open it together, but we need to fill it first.”  His parents tell him that they are adding things to the box as the days go by, but that it’s not ready to open yet.  Then on Christmas morning, he discovers what the Sparkle Box is all about.  It turns out that the Sparkle Box is the family’s gift to Jesus.  Each time the child did something to help someone else in need, his mom or dad wrote it on a slip of paper and put the paper in the box.  Because after all, “whatever we do for people in need, we do for Him.”

We read the book as a family, tonight and assembled our own Sparkle Box (it come with the book).  Earlier in the week, Rosie and I  had put together a shoe box for Operation Christmas Child, so I had Rosie write it down and add it to the Sparkle Box!

The book is a 10 by 10 hardcover, excellent quality with beautiful, rich illustrations.  Available at most local bookstores, online, or at idealsbooks.com.

About the Author and Illustrator

Author Jill Hardie and her family began placing a gift for Jesus under their Christmas tree as a way of bringing more meaning to the holiday.  The first time they opened His gift, the commercialism of the season melted away and they felt a profound joy and peace.  Jill hopes that The Sparkle Box will spark a new Christmas tradition, bringing light into thousands of lives.
At a very early age, Christine Kornacki developed a love for painting and bringing stories to life.  After receiving a BFA in illustration from the University of Hartford, her dreams of illustrating children’s books began to take shape.  She spends her days painting in her studio, which adjoins a charming cafe in New Haven, Connecticut.

We really have lost the true meaning of Christmas. I like how the Sparkle Box brings back the true meaning and focuses on how we can show Jesus that we are thinking of him. There are great resources, idea, links, and printouts on the site to help get kids involved in this. Wonderful! I must have this book in my children’s collection!

I like their idea here: What can you put in The Sparkle Box for Jesus?

Presents are meant to bring us joy. So when you ask yourself what you should put in Jesus’ Sparkle Box, think about the things that make Jesus happy.
Sounds like a wonderful way to bring the real spirit of Christmas :-)

This a great idea to start a new tradition. I read that you can also give donations by using The Good Card which is kind of similar to a gift card that just goes directly to the cause that you want to support. Awesome.
