Welcome to the Go Green Giveaway Event!

I’m so excited about this giveaway!!  What do you use for food storage?  Are you still using plastic containers?

My Top Three Reasons for Switching to Glass for Food Storage

1.  Glass is BPA-free, PVC-free and Phthalates-free.  Scientists have determined that plastic can leak toxic chemicals into your food.  It’s not safe for adults but especially for children.  Do you make your own baby food and put it into plastic ice cube trays?  Glass offers a safer alternative.  Especially if you are microwaving foods, glass is the way to go!

2. Because it’s 100% recyclable and reusable, glass is earth-friendly.  Substituting glass containers for disposable bags reduces the amount of trash in our landfills.  Glass is durable and with proper care will last for years and years.

3. Did you ever wonder about why spaghetti sauce stains your plastic containers?  What does it mean that you can’t get that out?  Ew.  Food tastes better after being stored in glass containers because the smooth surface of glass doesn’t absorb flavors, smells, or colors.  And glass is easy to clean.  We even use glass pots and pans and love them.  I always know they are clean because I can easily see whether food residue has been removed.

It’s Back-to-School time and if you are like me, you are struggling to find the right food and containers for your children’s lunch.

When I’m looking for containers for Rosie’s lunch, I want:

  • re-usable.  The landfills are overflowing with throw-away plastic bags.
  • healthy.  Plastic revolutionized products, but now we know that the kitchen, or your kids lunch box is not the best place for it.
  • cute.  I know, I know, but I can’t help it!  I want cute!
Melissa Gunning, founder of Wean Green, has a solution for us.  When Melissa was making baby food for her first child, she couldn’t find eco-friendly, healthy containers so she designed them herself.  Turning to tempered glass, which is very strong, durable, and won’t transfer any harmful chemicals, she designed Wean Cubes.  And she added cute!  The colors of the lids – blueberry, rasberry, carrot, and pea – are bright and fun.

I am always taking leftovers with me to work for lunch. I hate that plastic containers absorb the taste and smells, and so many of mine are stained from tomato sauces. I would love the Wean Green products for my lunches.
