How do your kids best learn good habits?
Here comes the cowering, blushing response from me…. Â by my example. Â Seriously, that’s how my daughter learns best. Â When she sees me do something over and over and over (yup, definition of habit), she tends to do it as well. Â Good and bad. Â Bottom line, if I eat my broccoli, she is going to like it too. Â If I have good oral care health habits, and I show her that it’s important to me, the likelihood that she will too increases exponentially.
So, parents?  What do you say?  Do you model good oral care health habits for your kids?  Do you brush, floss, and rinse?  It’s important!  According to the Mayo Clinic (and they know their stuff!), “Like many areas of the body, your mouth is teeming with bacteria — most of them harmless. Normally the body’s natural defenses and good oral health care, such as daily brushing and flossing, can keep these bacteria under control. However, without proper oral hygiene, bacteria can reach levels that might lead to oral infections, such as tooth decay and gum disease.”
It’s easy as 1-2-3, really!
1. Â Brush
2. Â Floss
3. Â Rinse
Routine creates habit and if you have a regular routine of brush-floss-rinse? Â You will create a lifelong habit that will benefit your children and keep the healthy for a lifetime.
We had a bit of a struggle going from our summer routine to getting back-to-school, but one of the things that helped us was making a poster with our bedtime and morning tasks.  We added the target time for each task, so that we would stay on schedule, reduce the chaos, and get to school on time!  So I decided that maybe a visual aid would help us with our brush-floss-rinse routine too!
I watched the You Tube video from LISTERINE about Healthy Habit Heroes and was inspired!  Check it out, especially the vignette of the woman who numbers her bathroom.  Seriously!  Watch this, The LISTERINE YouTube page featuring the Healthy Habit Heroes video series.
Using Dr. G’s example, I numbered our oral hygiene routine. Â 1-2-3, easy peasey, brush-floss-rinse. Â It’s simple, effective, and even adds a smile to our day!
What products do we use? Â There are three in the LISTERINE line-up that I’m excited about: Â LISTERINE ULTRACLEAN MINT FLOSS, LISTERINE HEALTHY WHITE RINSE and LISTERINE SMART RINSE.
We’ve been using the LISTERINE SMART RINSE for a long time now and it makes rinsing easier for my daughter. Â I was happy to see that the new bottle has a little cap (so you won’t be tempted to use the cap as a cup). Â This no-alcohol formula is safe for kids to use and the self-measuring pump makes it fun!
A new product that I couldn’t wait to try was the LISTERINE ULTRACLEAN MINT FLOSS. Â Why would you be excited about floss? Â The promotional material said that it removed 2X more plaque than my old floss! Â I wanted to know how! Â I think it’s the shape of the floss, called MICRO-GROOVES Technology. Â It reminded me of a cross between tape and floss. Â Whatever makes it work, I like it! Â I especially liked the mint flavoring – it feels very fresh.
Listerine also has come out with a new LISTERINE HEALTHY WHITE RINSE, that has so many benefits, you can’t help but be impressed.
