Photo from Christmas with the Kranks

I was watching “Christmas With the Kranks” while turning myself into a wrapping-machine and laughing myself silly.  If you haven’t seen the movie, Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis decide to skip celebrating Christmas and go on a Caribbean cruise.  Their neighborhood traditionally decorates their homes and is outraged that the Kranks won’t be putting up lights and their rooftop Frosty up this year.

Holiday outdoor decorations are a staple of Christmas celebrations across the country.  I remember driving around Christmas Eve with my parents, checking out all the beautiful light displays.  It turns out that’s also when one of my parents was putting out the presents from Santa!  We’d come home to find a Christmas tree loaded with gifts.  It was magical!

This year I was delighted to see the selection of outdoor decorations available at Sears!  I went shopping on Black Friday – read about my trip here or check out my google plus album – and found two fun additions to our outdoor decorations.  Rosie is six this year and I have been amazed at the excitement these two decorations generated for her and her friends.

These bells have been the most fun!!  Who would have thought, right?  I honestly thought these were more for me than for Rosie.  I love, love, love Christmas music.  I’ve also fallen in love with creating a warm, welcoming doorstep.  It’s the first impression of your home and a chance to make guests feel cozy – to let them know you are happy they are here!  These pathway bells have a motion sensor that starts the music when someone walks up the walk to the front door.  How perfect, right?  I should have know that if you add “motion sensor” to “six year olds”, the answer is “GIGGLES”.  Rosie and her friends have had so much fun with these bells!!  It is absolutely adorable to watch them.  Friends know that coming in or going out will take much longer than usual, hehehe.  It’s difficult to tear the kids away from these bells.  Decorating success?  You betcha!  Yay, mom, add ten “cool-mom-points”!

Then we love this Snoopy mailbox so much, we ended up keeping it inside, so we could enjoy it more!  If we know company is coming, we put it on the front porch and I think we’ll put it out Christmas Eve, but for now it’s in our entryway and we enjoy it.  The door of the mailbox opens and closes, so you know kids love it, and who doesn’t love Snoopy and Woodstock!

How do you decorate the outside of your house or yard for the holidays?  Do you have memories of seeing outdoor decorations?  If you’re a last minute decorator, browse the Sears Holiday Shop, you’ll be surprised and inspired!  Before I went to the site, I didn’t know Sears sold live trees online!  And Christopher Radko ornaments!
