Just 3 Steps, 2X Daily = Clear Skin

That’s an equation that I can love!  Not to brag… but I will *blush*.  I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on my skin. A recent skin analysis by a dermatologist gave me high marks in pore size, smoothness, etc.  I’m very satisfied with the skin care products I use, both for effectiveness and for ease of use.  That’s a very important factor – ease of use.  If it’s not easy to use, practically speaking, you won’t use it.  And it won’t work.  There are very few women who have the time and dedication to use numerous products that take forever to use.  Most of us need fast and easy.  When I was contacted about doing a review about Proactiv, I enthusiastically said “YES!”.  Proactiv is one of the reasons my skin is clear and healthy.

I can say, without a doubt, that Proactiv is one of the reasons my skin is clear and healthy because I’ve tried to quit.  I admit it, I wanted to simplify, save money, etc. and I tried to quit.  I thought perhaps I’ve gotten old enough – I mean c’mon there have to be SOME benefits to aging, right?  But no, * raspberry*, I still have break outs.  I went back fairly quickly and make sure that I never run out!

The story behind when I started Proactiv is actually kinda gross, but without pictures, it’s not so bad.  I had such a bad breakout on my face that I actually put a band-aid over it.  One of my friends asked what happened, and when I confessed it was acne, she told me to get Proactiv!!  Now!!  I had seen the commercials and testimonials and her urging was just what I needed to finally get on the phone and order it.  I’m grateful to this day.

The Proactiv "toolkit" to clear, healthy skin

Okay, how does it work?  Easy-peasy!  3 Steps, once in the morning, once in the evening.  Nothing different in the morning versus evening.  Easy!

Step One:  Cleanse

Splash water on your face.  Put a dime size blob of cleanser (I always over-use, but seriously use only a dime size amount) on your hand.  Massage it onto your skin.  This part is important, for one to two minutes.  Next time you wash your face, pay attention to how long you wash.  If you’re like me, it’s not a minute.  A minute is longer than you think.  Okay, back to how to do this.  Rinse off with warm water.  That’s important – warm water.  Not hot, bad for your skin.  Not cold, won’t clean.  Have you ever washed dishes with cold water.  Yuck, does not work on dishes, does not work on your face.  Pat dry.  Are you listening?  Pat dry.  Don’t rub, pat.  Use a clean, white towel.  Clean.  White.  Clean because well, you want everything that touches your face to be clean.  Here’s a tip:  use a dry washcloth.  I buy the inexpensive white washcloths and use a fresh one every time I dry my face.  Then after you dry your face, use it to wipe off your vanity/mirror.  Why white?  There is peroxide in the cleanser and it will bleach out any colored towels.  Okay, back to your face.  On to step two!

Step Two - Tone Notice the flip tops on the containers - cool!

Step Two:  Tone

Put a dime size amount on a cotton ball or pad.  I like pads myself.  Apply a thin layer to your whole face.  Notice it says, “apply”.  But at the same time you are putting it on, you are also taking off anything you missed when you rinsed.  Part of why this step is important.  Allow to dry.  Yup, allow to dry.  That means wave your hands, stand in front of a vent.  Let it air dry.  But take the four seconds to make sure it’s dry before, you guessed it, step three.

Step Three:  Treat

Place a pea size amount (note, a pea is smaller than a dime) on fingertips and apply a thin layer over your entire face.  Again allow to dry.  That means wave your hands, stand in front of a vent.  Let it air dry.  Before you put on makeup, this is really important.  If you put on your makeup while it’s still wet, it’s going to push around that treatment lotion and wipe it off some places.

This is way easier than it sounds here.  Once you get in a groove, zip-zap-zoom, fast and easy.  Proactiv even gives you a laminated cheat sheet to put in your bathroom for the first few times you do it.  Before you know it, though, you’ll be doing it even if you haven’t had your coffee yet.

Proactiv makes a lot of products other than the 3 basics of skin care.  There are special products for other issues you may have related to your skin and for other places than your face.  I was surprised to see that they also have make-up!  I’m going to be trying that!

One thing I hadn’t tried before preparing for this review, but wanted to be able to tell you about it, is Proactiv 365, Skin Care Advisor Support.  It’s called  Proactiv 365 because you can get help 24/7, 365 days a year – all the time!  I called the toll-free number and was very pleased with the experience.  Proactiv has a dandruff shampoo and I wanted to find out if I could use it for Rosie.  The advisor was very helpful, going through the ingredients for me, letting me know that it was a “medicated” product and what the concentration was.  She told me that they do have young people use it, but that if I would like, I should ask my pediatrician’s opinion.  How smart and kind!

And Proactiv 365 is more than just the phone line.  Sometimes I don’t know the right question to ask.  I was happy to see that there is also an online forum where you can read FAQs, other people’s questions that will often help answer questions I didn’t know how to ask.  I learned so much wandering around that forum.  There is even more to the Proactiv 365, please check out the site to see all the benefits you’ll find.

Included with the Proactiv kit, for first time users there is a small book called, “The Doctor’s Secrets to a Lifetime of Clear Skin” by the creators of Proactiv, Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields.  I love this book!  It has such great information about taking care of your skin in short easy-to-read segments.  The book starts by talking about the effects of acne – not on your physical self, but your mental and emotional health.  Sadly, people judge us and treat us differently based on our appearance.  We act differently, feel differently, because of our appearance.  We wish it wasn’t so, but it is what it is.  Then there are 30 bite-size doses of skin care advice like, “Apply to affected areas only – NOT”.

That Proactiv box that comes in the mail is more than just skin care – it’s a toolbox!  A long time ago, someone asked me, “What do you notice more about someone – their outfit or their bad skin?”  Hmmm, *embarrassed* but my answer is bad skin.  “What will someone else notice about you?”  Hmmm, *more embarrassed* – bad skin.  So what do you want to spend your money on, a new outfit or the products you need to have clear skin?  You can wear an outfit once every couple weeks, you wear your skin every minute of every day.  Huh.  Makes more sense to spend money on clear skin, then clothes.  Need more?  Don’t wait, if you’ve been thinking about it, I’ll pass on the words of my friend, that helped me, “Call Proactiv.  Call NOW.”
