P & G and Walmart are bringing us another Family Movie Night, Saturday, August 6 on NBC at 8pm ET/7pm CT.  The movie, Who is Simon Miller?, tells the story of a family turned upside down when they discover that their father/husband is not simply who they thought he was.

I was lucky enough to see a preview of this movie and internet chat with star, Robyn Lively at the same time.  One of the other bloggers watching, asked Robyn how she liked watching the movie with all of these strangers, but new best friends.  She replied that she loved watching it and getting feedback from the audience at the same time.  This was the first time she had seen the entire movie.  She was very fun and told us about quirky little things to watch for and backstory on some of the actors.  For example, the two people who play the scientist and his daughter, are actually father and daughter in real life.

The casting and acting was excellent.  Robyn Lively played the wife, married to Simon Miller, played by Loren Dean.  The chemistry between the two was palpable.  The couple’s children played by Skyler Day and Drew Koles were amazing.  Robyn told us that Skyler was unbelievably sweet.  In one scene when Mrs. Miller (Robyn) was crying, Sklyer started crying too.  Robyn told us that Sklyer was so sweet and sympathetic that it happened every time.

This movie, unlike the last Family Movie Night feature is more fun and action-packed.  I think every age group will enjoy watching it.  The kids in the movie are incredibly smart, but I liked that it wasn’t at the expense of the adults, as is often the case in movies.  The action was very well paced and the suspense was non-stop.  I was always guessing, who were the “good guys” and who were the bad.

The product placement was once again a bit heavy-handed, but not so much that it spoiled the movie.

I am happy to support Family Movie Night.  I love being able to sit down with my family and share a program that isn’t embarrassing or crass.  How many times have you watched tv with your kids and been frustrated by adult scenes or topics?  Even in the commercials!

The mission of Family Movie Night includes:

  • Great quality movies
  • Good for the whole family
  • Teachable moments
  • Even family friendly commercials!

Walmart and P&G have partnered to create the Family Moments initiative to help moms and families better connect with each other. Family Movie Night is a part of that movement to provide meaningful entertainment for the entire family.

During Family Movie Night, you can be confident that the programming on their screens will be fun and action-packed, without the worry of having to dive for the remote to change the channel when inappropriate ads or other content comes on. Soundtracks for the films also feature top producers and artists.

By providing this block of time, Walmart and P&G are striving to reconnect families across the country that are bombarded by busy schedules and the lack of programming that’s appealing to everyone. Tune in and see what the buzz is about.

Gather your family, pop some popcorn, and tune in for the premier of “Who is Simon Miller?” Saturday, August 6th at 8PM EST / 7 PM Central on NBC. I loved it and I think your family will too!

I remember the family friendly movies when I was a kid. When my kids were little we watched more PBS, reruns or old shows I watched and videos.

It’s great that companies are being more proactive.
