About the Artist:
Yanni is 56 years old, he was born in Kalamata, Greece but he is truly an international music star. His breakthrough hit was Yanni Live At The Acropolis – a hugely popular music video. Yanni has 35 gold and platinum albums, with sales totaling over 20 million copies. His music is considered contemporary instrumental and I especially love his keyboard performances.
Self-taught, Yanni was performing recitals at a very young age – before he could read music. If you believe musical talent greatness is something you are born with, Yanni certainly fulfills that theory. He attended college in the United States and received a BA in Psychology from the University of Minnesota.
About the CD, Truth of Touch:
Truth of Touch, is Yanni’s 16th studio album, released in February, 2011. It is true to his music genre of contemporary instrumental but for me, it is an up-to-date interpretation of his timeless style. The rhythms and quality of the music inspire a calm, like his work in the past, but I heard more energy in these tracks than in some of his past work. I listen to most music in my car, where thankfully, I have a great sound system and I could get the volume to enjoy all the layers in Yanni’s work.
Not every track in Truth of Touch is instrumental – there are some female vocals, by American, Leslie Mills and a male tenor performance in the track, O Luce Che Brilla Nell’Oscurita by Brazilian singer, Nathan Pacheco.
I liked this CD very much, especially the keyboard . Even my 5 year old, who complained when I put in “Mommy Music”, was calmed and listened to the entire CD. High praise! The first and title track, Truth of Touch, had music with the qualities of stringed instruments – you could feel the touch of the musician in the performance. The second, Echo of a Dream, reminded me of ripples on water, echoes like the rings stretching out in a calm lake. Long Way Home is one of my favorites – I liked the melody and the repetition in that track. One of the tracks had almost a rap beat, not one of my favorites, but interesting!
