ABOUT THE BOOK:

Elise, an almost-sixteen year old, is starting at a new school. She only has one friend, Stacie, who lives near her in the same complex. But Stacie is a freshman and only fourteen – not someone Elise can hang out with at school. Elise has also met (once) Asher Gordon through a common friend from Elise’s old school. Asher is one of the “cool kids” – handsome, smart and athletic.

At first, Elise thinks that she has it made. On her first day, Asher introduces her to all his friends and even welcomes her to the coveted “cool kids table” at lunch. Unfortunately, Asher’s girlfriend is not pleased by his interest in Elise.

When everything falls apart and suddenly Elise is facing some very serious problems, she is forced to look at all her new friends and figure out who is framing her for things she hasn’t done.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Melody Carlson and her husband live in the woods of the Cascade Mountains.  They have two grown sons and a beautiful granddaughter.  Melody has written over 200 books, including some for adults, teens, young readers and children.  She was nominated for a Romantic Times Career Achievement Award and one, Finding Alice, is in production as a Lifetime Television movie!

MY TAKE ON THE BOOK:
I knew when I requested this book that it was written for teens, but whether you have teens or not, I highly recommend reading this book.  The storyline addresses many tough topics that face teens today but in a non-threatening way.  Without giving away too much of the plot, Never Been Kissed, is a eye-opening story about the dangers of communicating with a keyboard.
It started slowly for me, taking awhile to grab my interest, but I was glad I stuck with it.  The beginning is about teen life, written from a teen’s perspective.  There are some interesting twists and turns that pulled me in and I was soon having difficulty putting it down.  The pages were turning pretty quickly there for awhile!
If you do have a teen or pre-teen, I highly, highly recommend that you both read this book.  It brings up a number of topics that are important for parents to discuss with their kids.  Including the timeless temptations to sacrifice your morals for popularity to current temptations of internet anonymity, Never Been Kissed has an important message for teens and adults.
