  • Our vision is to see a world where MILLIONS of people work to ensure that no child dies from dies from hunger or easily preventable diseases.
  • Our vision is to see a world where MILLIONS of people work to ensure that ALL children have the nutrition and food they need to thrive.
  • Our vision is to see a world where MILLIONS of people offer every child a home. Our vision is to see a world where MILLIONS of people work to ensure that every child has someone who cares and a place to belong.

All children should have:

Someone who cares
A place to belong
Hope for tomorrow and provisions for their journey.
All children.

That’s the mission of Champions for Kids, an organization that partners with big corporations to leverage charitable works.  Instead of trying to “do” everything themselves, Champions for Kids encourage all of us to do our part and help those in need.  Brilliant idea, isn’t it?

This month, Champions for Kids partnered with Post Cereals.  I want to participate in this month’s campaign because I know summer is one of the times of biggest need for food.  During the school year, children in low-income families received meals at school, but only 1 in 6, continue to receive meals during the summer.  Food pantries are there to help, but they need to be stocked with nutritious food.  Champions for Kids is encouraging all of us to help by having a food drive… a fun food drive!  Not going door to door or asking your coworkers, but by having an event and making the “price of admission” a food donation.  Doesn’t that sound fun?  It could be a movie night, girls night out, holiday party, or anything where friends and family gather.

We decided to make our 4th of July party do double duty as a food drive for our local food pantry!  We’re inviting family and friends to come over and celebrate the 4th with us.  Everyone always asks, “what can I bring?” and we are asking them to bring food donations for our local food pantry.  Then after the party, we will take it all to our local food pantry, Westchester Food Pantry.  It’s fun and it feels good!  Rosie made one side of the invitation and I made the other.

The Westchester Neighbors Food Pantry serves almost 9,000 individual units each year.

Then we went shopping for Post cereal.  The Champions for Kids Post Bowls of Hope is encouraging families to buy three boxes of cereal, keep two for your family and donate one.  “Buy 2, Give 1”.  Ariel, aka Rosie came with me.  We headed over to our Walmart – it’s not only got great prices, but I love the fresh produce department!  Rosie lost a tooth this week and couldn’t wait to spend her tooth fairy money.  We picked the hottest day of the year so far – hitting 100 degrees.  If you want to see photos of our whole shopping trip, check out my Google Plus Album!

Rosie’s favorite!

Some for mommy…

Hula hoop testing!

Watch for another post, just after the 4th to see how our friends and family enjoyed the party and added to the food drive!
