Are you looking for…
…a dish that you can serve at your holiday meal?
… a meal to serve on Christmas Eve?
…a dish to take to a holiday dinner at someone else’s house?
I have the perfect thing for you! This dish not only tastes absolutely delicious but it looks beautiful. Made with loads of vegetables and new Johnsonville Naturals Sausage, you can feel good about serving this Italian Sausage Holiday Casserole to your family.
Johnsonville is helping us make our fall favorites healthier. Their new line of Naturals Sausage, is made with 100% all natural ingredients and no artificial preservatives. The Johnsonville Naturals line includes Brats, Italian Sausage and Breakfast Sausage varieties. When you look for Johnsonville Naturals at the store, check the “Natural, Organic” section.
I was inspired by a recipe for “tian” which is a French classic that takes it’s name from the casserole dish used in the recipe. You can use any baking dish, but I prefer a round one because of the beautiful look of the colorful ingredients.
Italian Sausage Holiday Casserole
Ingredients
1/2 medium onion
2 cloves garlic
2 tablespoons olive oil
8 peppers (red, green, orange and yellow)
2 tomatoes
2 portabella mushrooms
1 package of Johnsonville Naturals Italian Sausage
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup of Italian cheese
Directions
Cook Johnsonville Naturals Italian Sausage according to package instructions. Slice cooked sausages on the diagonal to get large-surface pieces. Set aside. Using a mandolin, slice vegetables into medium-thick pieces.
Brown onion and garlic in olive oil. Take dish off stove and layer in other ingredients, alternating each one around the edge of the pan, then fill in center. Salt and pepper to taste.
Bake at 400 degrees for 30-45 minutes. Drain any liquid. Sprinkle Italian cheese on top, cook under broiler to melt and brown cheese.
What a tasty sounding recipe. This is something my entire family would love. I’ll have to try it! :)
Thank you for food review.
I just started eating tomatoes at 40. I wish I could eat the majority of veggies and my body handle spicy foods.
Yum. This looks really tasty!

I was married to a lady whose family came directly from Italy..and I enjoyed cooking with my mother-in-law. Your use of Johnsonville Naturals Sausage rather than the time consuming home made sausage has made this delicious dish so much easier…thank you
