Before I found the Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer I struggled to find a good solution to reading my new daughter’s temperature.  My husband and I adopted my daughter when she was eight months old.  I hadn’t been a babysitter when I was little and didn’t have family members close who had raised children, so my experience level was pretty low.  The thought of caring for a child was honestly, kind of scary.  I wanted to make sure before she came home that I would be prepared for any emergency and especially ready to care for her if she became ill.

A fever is a sign of illness that can’t be missed.  It is critical that you know if your child is suffering from a fever and how high their temperature is.  The words “rectal temperature” are pretty scary for anyone but especially new parents.  A child can be too young, or too active to use an oral thermometer and I was never able to find an oral thermometer that was very accurate, even for me.  Under the arm, has the same problems.

I was thrilled when I found the Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer and have been using one for ten years for our whole family.  With a gentle stroke of the forehead it captures the naturally emitted heat from the skin over the temporal artery, taking 1,000 readings per second, selecting the most accurate.  You can use it on a sleeping child, a fussy child, even a protesting husband!  The temporal artery thermometer scans the forehead area for the temporal artery and it is almost impossible to miss the artery during a scan.

But what about accuracy?  The TemporalScanner has been proven more accurate than even expensive ear thermometers by a Harvard Medical School study.  Good enough for me!
