Have you ever tried Greek yogurt? I tried it for the first time yesterday, for my afternoon snack and have a new love! I’ve always liked yogurt – since my college days when I first tried plain yogurt. Fast forward from plain yogurt to Oikos, from Dannon. I tried the Rasberry, which is one of my favorite flavors. Oikos got it right, with their subtle-but-delicious rasberry flavor.
Are you wondering, “Why Greek yogurt?” One of the benefits of Greek yogurt is the added nutritional value over “regular” yogurt. Both types of Oikos Greek Yogurt (Plain /Fruit on the Bottom and Traditional Blended) contain about twice as much protein as regular low-fat yogurt. The Dannon® Oikos® Plain and Fruit on the Bottom contains 0% fat, while the Dannon® Oikos® traditional blended varieties contain about 3% fat.
The additional protein makes Oikos yogurt a more filling, satisfying snack.  Dannon® Oikos® is created through an authentic Greek straining process which gives it a rich and creamy-thick texture. The straining process results in more milk solids in the yogurt. I liked the thicker texture very much. It reminded me a bit of a sour cream kind of texture. But at the same time, it wasn’t heavy. It almost had an airy, whipped quality, but still being thick. Yes, it is hard to describe. You have to try it!
I can’t wait to try it in my crepes! The Oikos yogurt will be the perfect texture for a crepe filling – standing up for itself and won’t make the crepe soggy. The fruit flavors will be perfect. The Dannon Oikos website has some mouth-watering recipe ideas with greek yogurt like these:
