Have you watched the hit series Rizzoli & Isles? Â It’s one of my favorites. Â Because I have a daughter, seeing strong and smart women on television is important to me. Â I want her to know that there are opportunities and rewards for being physically fit and intelligent. Â There are also many lessons about female friendships – the ups and the downs!
If you haven’t seen Rizzoli & Isles yet, this is a perfect time to start – Season One is already available on DVD and Season Two of Rizzoli & Isles will be released on DVD 5/22.  Preorder the DVD, available 5/22!  I did a marathon catch-up with the action series “24” a few years ago.  It’s fun to be able to watch back-to-back episodes of a show you like and not have to wait for the next weekly show.  Without commercials, it takes much less time to watch shows on DVD.  Season Two was an exciting one with tons of romance and mysteries.  Maura, the forensic pathologist played by Sasha Alexander, is exploring her family history and trying to figure out what went on with her parents and why they did what they did.  Jane has old loves appearing and stirring up feelings of all kinds.  Both are focusing on the past to understand what’s going on in the present and help shape the future.
Speaking of delving into the past, in the episode, Seventeen Ain’t Sweet, Jane heads to her high school reunion and brings along Maura. But a series of murders take place involving fellow students. Jane is forced to once again focus on the past to help solve the case when she realizes that everyone in her class is a potential suspect.  I find myself reaching back into the past sometimes when Rosie has a social problem at school.  I try to remember what it was like and how I felt when friendships hit rocky times.  I remember a specific time when I had to make a major choice between two groups of friends.  I tried to stay friends with both, but they weren’t going to mix with each other and eventually I had to choose.  Looking back, I think I made the wrong choice.  I think that had I chosen the other group we would still be friends today, whereas the group I did choose has long since dissolved.
Once you are caught up, or refreshed by watching the Season Two DVDs, hold on, because Season 3 premieres, Tuesday, June 5th, 9/8c on TNT!  I can’t wait to see what happens.  Do you remember the last episode of Season 2?  Yikes, what drama, and Jane and Maura are on opposite sides….  Maura did something in the line of duty that Jane may not be able to ever forgive her for!  I did get a bit of a hint from reading “Creator’s Corner” on the Rizzoli and Isles website.  Creator, Janet Tamaro, was asked how long Jane and Maura might be fighting.  She replied that there was a definite time limit.  That’s encouraging!  My favorite part of the show is there survival-style friendship.  Hopefully they will resolve some of the issues that had them delving so much into the past and become besties again.
Rizzoli & Isles airs Tuesday nights at 9/8c on TNT. Â Season Three premieres June 5th and creator, Janet Tomaro tells us, there will be “so much new drama, I’m worried we won’t be able to tell all the stories I’ve got planned. Jane will have some heartbreak. Maura’s family life will get more complicated. Frank Sr. will be back to throw a few big rocks into the middle of the lake, as will youngest kid, Tommy. That’s just a little taste of this upcoming season.” Â I’ll be watching, join me!
