Saturday, November 10th is the 3rd annual Neighborhood Toy Store Day. Â
What is Neighborhood Toy Store Day? Â It’s a celebration of that “little-toy-store-around-the-corner”! Â It’s to help parents discover today’s best toys, with the help of an expert, who works in a locally owned toy store.
- Did you know that according to the 3/50 Project, for every $100 spent in local independently-owned stores, $68 returns to the community. Â It comes back in the form of taxes, salaries, charitable contributions and more.
Are you looking for a special toy for a special kid in your life? Â Independent toy stores tend to carry high-quality, specialty toys that have the “WOW” factor! Â And employees of locally owned stores are happy to help you find just the right toy for your child’s age and level of development.
How do you find a local toy store event? Â Many local toy stores will have special events on Saturday, November 10th, with activities, craft projects, live performances and/or special discounts to kick off the holiday shopping season. Here’s an example of the specialty toys you can find at a local toy store! Â My family played with the game Tenzi, which is a winner of ASTRA’s Best Toys for Kids 2012 Award. Â It’s fast and furious! Â Our favorite thing about the game was that it appealed to kids and adults alike. Â My daughter had fun coming up with her own variations of the rules!
What is ASTRA?  The American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA) is a non-profit association that provides leadership and resources to grow the specialty toy industry.  It is the largest association serving the specialty toy industry.  Every year, they name their favorite toys that encourage open-ended and creative play.
