Step One on my Journey to Health

I’m so excited!!  Nutrisystem has chosen me to take part in their Nutrisystem Nation Blogger Program!

My “Welcome Letter” said these words that spoke directly to my feelings today:  “…you’ve taken an important first step toward leading a slimmer, healthier life.”  Woo-hoo!

This opportunity came at the perfect time.  Rosie was having problems adjusting to preschool, so I thought it might help to have Sean drive her to school and I would leave the house before her.  I thought the separation might be easier if I left her, instead of her leaving me.  So, every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, I leave at 7:50 am to go to the Fitness Center.  It’s good for me, and good for her!

To lose weight, I knew I would have to change my eating habits. Then the offer came from Nutrisystem and I jumped at it.  I had watched Marie Osmond lose weight (doesn’t she look awesome?) and had a good impression of the Nutrisystem program.  The more I learned, the more I liked.  More posts will be coming up, including the top reasons I like Nutrisystem.

Today was Day One.  It has gone extremely well.  I didn’t have any problem sticking to the plan and I wasn’t hungry all day.  There was plenty to eat.  I love fruits and vegetables and my meals were full of them!  On the Nutrisystem plan, you eat the food from Nutrisystem as well as seven fruits/vegetables.  I’m usually too lazy to cut and cook as many fruits and vegetables as I should, so I appreciated the motivation I need!

I plan to weigh-in every Tuesday morning.  Here is today’s – 185 pounds.

My goal weight is 145 pounds – I’d like to lose 40 pounds. Whew, it sound like a huge amount. But if I gained it, I should be able to lose it again.  And gain it I did – in the last six years.  It sounds crazy, because I adopted Rosie, but it was during the adoption process that I started gaining my “baby weight”.  I spent hours sitting at my computer, hitting the refresh button, hoping to get news of a step in the process.  Or chatting online with other adopting parents.  Or scouring the adoption forums to find tips on how to deal with the challenges of the process.  And while I was sitting at the computer, I would snack *sigh*.  Combine inactivity with snacking and the pounds pile on.  Then, when I quit work to become a stay-at-home mom, I also quit walking as much.  I had taken a train to work and did a lot of city walking during the day and to/from the train.  Even my choices of food changed – I ate what Rosie ate.  Hot dogs, whole milk, macaroni and cheese.  Yup, forty pounds later, here I am.

I hope you’ll join me on my journey, please read along and feel free to leave encouraging comments, *hint, hint*.  I’ll be sharing my experiences with Nutrisystem as I go. If you’ve considered Nutrisystem, or a similar system, please stay tuned for more info.  Can’t wait?  Go to the Nutrisystem website – there is tons of information there!

I’ll be showing you pictures of some of my meals – here’s my scrumptious dinner from tonight! Cheese and Spinach Ravioli with Meat Sauce, green beans, salad, peaches, and a Diet Coke.  (I put my Diet Coke in a wine glass, just feels more special)   I also had Pound Cake for dessert, but I forgot to take a picture of that, and now it’s gone ;)

One last quote from the Welcome Letter:

“Just imagine how great you’ll feel – creating healthy, new habits AND the kind of body you’ve always wanted!  The truth is that it’s always been possible.  You’ve just been waiting for the right tools to get the job done… and now you have them with this comprehensive 28 day Nutrisystem program.”

Disclosure:  Nutrisystem is providing their program free of charge for my participation in the Nutrisystem Nation Blogging Program.
