Summer is in full swing!

Graduation parties, holidays, family reunions…

It’s barbeque party season!

If you are trying to lose weight, it can be a challenge to eat sensibly.   Nutrisystem sent me these great tips and I wanted to share them with you.  If you are a Nutrisystem fan like me, they are perfect advice, but even if you’re not on the Nutrisystem program, these are helpful tips.

Tips on Surviving (and Enjoying) the Summertime BBQ Season While Trying to Lose Weight

Tip #1:  Substitute your own veggie burger or turkey hot dog for the traditional high-fat summer fare.  They are especially delicious right off the grill. You can eat hamburgers and hot dogs with the kids, but still maintain your own weight loss plan!

Tip #2:  Serve whole wheat rolls and buns or pass on the bread altogether.  Choose a healthier option of whole wheat or skip the bread and just eat your hamburger or hot dog with a fork.  Delicious and save the calories!

Tip #3:  Don’t skip the veggies, just because it’s a barbeque.  Create a salad bar, with all your favorite fixin’s and choices of dressings (including a low-calorie, low-fat option!).  Include raw broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, green peppers and a variety of lettuce choices.  Baby spinach is delicious and healthy!

Tip #4:  Grill some vegetables on the BBQ!  Get the kids involved and make vegetable kabobs!  Use red, yellow, and green peppers; whole mushrooms; zucchini; chunks of corn on the cob; small tomatoes and whatever you have on hand!  Colorful, fun, and delicious.

Tip #5:  Serve a giant pitcher or spigot beverage dispenser filled with ice cold water, orange and lemon slices.  It’s beautiful and refreshing!

Tip #6:  For dessert, serve fresh fruit!  It’s the perfect, refreshing summer dessert and a healthy choice!  Fruit salad, a dish of colorful berries…  One of my favorites is to hollow out a watermelon and fill it with delicious, colorful fruit salad.

If you’re a guest instead of hosting the barbeque, remember your hostess will love if you bring a dish to share and it can be one of your healthy choices!
