My daughter, Rosie, was asking for a pet for the last few years, but she had to wait until she was old enough (which means responsible enough) to take care of it (which means pick up poop).  When she turned seven, we added a baby Maltese puppy to our family.  Maggie has been a wonderful addition – giving us so much laughter and joy.  My daughter is over-the-moon in love with her little dog and very proud to be Maggie’s “person”.

“Of course, Maggie would have a stocking and get gifts for Christmas”, my daughter proclaims loudly and clearly, “she’s part of our family!”  While the pet center near the shopping mall is huge and overwhelming, our local Walgreen’s is where I head for creative gifts and gift solutions.  It’s smaller and much easier to navigate than the big box stores and I feel as if a personal shopper has already selected all the best for me.  The prices on pet gifts are surprisingly low and the combination of easy and frugal is too much to pass by.

Do you know someone who is getting a new pet for Christmas?  Do you know someone who loves their pet as much or more than most people love their children?  They might be touched by your gift to their fur-baby.

1.  Cozy, comfy pet bed

This adorable pet bed let’s Maggie be cozy, comfy and the price was crazy low!  If you are looking for a Holiday “Basket” Gift, this pet bed would be the perfect base.  Fill it with treats, toys and fun and you will be the savvy shopper of the day!

2. Toys, toys, and toys

Pets love toys, or is it that we love giving them toys?  Both!  I picked up a chew-tug toy and a treat ball at Walgreens that have already kept Maggie entertained for hours.  Have you seen a treat ball?   You put a treat inside and the pet rolls, bites, and does anything-they-can to get to the treat.  But it’s not easy, so they are kept busy for hours.

3.  Treats

Walgreens always carries an excellent selection of pet treats. Pair the special holiday gift guide items with the standard treats and chewies that are in the Walgreens Pet Shoppe to make a fun and practical gift.

4. Stocking full of goodies

When you’re hanging your stockings on Christmas Eve, don’t forget your family pet!  Or if you are visiting someone over the holidays, why not bring their pet a stocking full of goodies?!

5.  Home Sweet Home

I found this adorable Portable Pet House that is fun even if your gift is going to be a stuffed animal!

I had fun creating a gift basket for our special pet.  Thanks to Walgreens unique pairings, I could create a personalized gift basket with special holiday items from their gift guide as well as other standard in-store items.  Take a look at the Walgreens Happy & Healthy Holiday Guide and then check the standard in-store items to see the possibilities for personalizing the perfect gift for that special someone!

And don’t forget to use your Walgreens Balance Rewards!  If you’re not a member, sign-up is easy.
