In December, 2012, Disney launched an online music store! How did I miss this? When I received an email to review the new place to download music, I was very excited. With a seven year old daughter, online safety is important to me. She loves (and I mean LOVES) to download music. A huge collection of current music hits and timeless music classics are now available to download at the online Disney Music Store! Here are the top five reasons why I love it:
1. Family-friendly content
What your kids can see and read on an online music store can be downright scary! Unlike other digital music retailers, the Disney digital music store is a platform free of questionable content and safe for shoppers of any age. Disney Music Group Director of Strategic Marketing, Ray Powell: “Parents have always trusted the Disney brand. They know their kids love music, and they want to give them access to music that is family-friendly.”
2. Over 12,000 tracks to choose from
The catalog of music available at the Disney digital music store includes:
- Current hit artists like Selena Gomez, Bridgit Mendler, and Demi Lovato
- Disney Channel soundtracks like Shake It Up, Austin & Ally, Let It Shine
- Disney Junior soundtracks, for example Sofia the First and Jake and the Never Land Pirates
- Disney Film soundtracks (Brave, The Muppets, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King)
- Radio Disney favorites
3. Avoid “surprise” purchases by your kids that show up on your credit card or in an unexpected email receipt
I cannot tell you how many times I’ve read in a Facebook feed about an angry parent that was surprised by unauthorized downloads that their children made online. When you have an account tied to a credit card that you use for music downloads, it’s like a blank check for a child. They can order anything they want, without a limit! With Disney Music Store, you can open an account and fund it with a gift card. Voila! A limit! Also, when I share an account for an online music store with my daughter, she has access to my previous downloads. What’s okay for me is not always appropriate for her.
4. Perfect for gift giving
If you are giving a music gift card for a child, it can be awkward if it’s from other retailers that carry adult content. Whether you’re a grandparent, a teacher, or a birthday party guest, you know a Disney Music Gift Card will be a gift of appropriate music.
It’s easy to buy a Disney Music Gift Card, they are available at many retailers including Walmart. Available in $15, $25 or custom denominations, the cards make a perfect gift.
5. Create and relive special memories
Have you ever heard a song and been transported back to a special moment when that music was playing? It’s the “Soundtrack of Your Life”. Disney has classic tunes that for many of us provided the soundtrack for major events in our life. I always get a warm, comforted feeling when I hear the Disney theme song, “When You Wish Upon A Star” and remember watching Disney movies on Sunday night! Whenever I hear the song from the Lion King, “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King”, I will remember my daughter singing at the top of her lungs, “I just can’t waaaaaaait tobeking.”
In the extra features to the Lion King, I learned that Elton John always dreamed of writing an iconic Disney love song. At one point in the creation of the movie, Disney planned to have the song performed by Pumbaa and Timon instead of Nala and Simba. Elton John was horrified at the prospect of his love song being turned into a comedic element. Thankfully, Disney decided he was right, and made it a love song.
