What do you look for when choosing a kitchen appliance?

What’s the last appliance you bought?

Did you make a good choice?

Here are the top five things I would consider when choosing a refrigerator, stove, dishwasher or microwave:

1.  Dependability

2.  Features

3.  Value

4.  Style

5.  Energy Efficiency

You, too?  Same order?

Our dishwasher broke a few months ago.  At first, my husband and I thought, we could live without one for awhile…

Day One:  “This won’t be so bad.  We haven’t had a dishwasher every day of our whole lives.  It’ll be okay to hand wash our dishes for a bit while we wait.”

Day Two:  “This is more of a hassle than I remembered.  There seem to be dishes everywhere!”

Day Five:  “I wonder if we could rent a dishwasher…”

A few broken dishes, many broken nails, and a bit of arguing over who’s turn it was to wash dishes, we are now the proud owners of a new dishwasher.  *Happy Sigh*  Clean dishes!  Clear counters!  Empty sink!  Happy Family!  Thank you, Maytag!

One more question?  What do you think of when you hear the brand name Maytag?  For me, it’s always been dependability.  Quality comes second.  Now, I’m adding Style.

A friend of mine posted on her facebook page that her washer (not a Maytag) filled, but wouldn’t spin.  You could hear the frustration in her words as she described having to search for clothes for the kids to wear to school the next day, dreading arguing with the store where she had bought it (just a short while ago), and knowing it was the last thing she needed to be dealing with right now.  Isn’t it always that way?  It’s either a holiday, a special meal, company’s coming, or we have a schedule jam-packed with other important things to do than deal with a broken appliance.

Dependability is an important characteristic for appliances!  We count on our appliances “not to get in our way”.  There is enough going on without having to deal with appliance repairs.  For me, I don’t know much about mechanical workings of appliances or have any idea if someone is really making a necessary or correct repair.  It’s always very stressful, because I don’t know who to call or who to trust.  It’s more important for me that something not break in the first place!

Maytag knows that about us.  They build their appliances to last and keep working.  I remember the funniest story about a neighbor stabbing her refrigerator because it just wouldn’t break and her husband wouldn’t agree to a new style until the old one died!  Yikes!

A few months ago, I shared the “Before” of our kitchen.  The pictures in this post are the “During”.  Stay-tuned, the “After” is coming soon!

As a Maytag product ambassador, I am fortunate to be able to review a dishwasher, microwave, stove and refrigerator.  I was sent a choice of refrigerator styles and as soon as I saw the Maytag Ice2O French-Door Refrigerator, I was in love!  We had a side by side refrigerator and it seemed like everything was jammed into it.  We never seemed to have enough room.  And somehow, we couldn’t find things!  I have no idea how that was possible – I mean, it’s a box, right?  But we would search and search before finding something we knew was in there – somewhere.  And the worst, was our ice and water dispenser on the door, was broken.  I say “worst” because it was the most public.  Over the years, I can’t even guess how many times I had to say (with embarrassment), “Oh no!  Stop!  Don’t use that, it’s broken!”  I didn’t want to put a sign on it…. that’s weird.  I didn’t want to greet guests by saying, “Hello!  And by the way, don’t use the dispenser on the refrigerator door, it’s broken.  How are you?”  But the refrigerator itself wasn’t broken, so we limped along.

The show stopper in my new kitchen?  The snack drawer in the refrigerator!!!  It is so cool!!  I love, love, love the snack drawer.  I’ve filled ours with fruit and veggies.  So far, I’ve had luck with leaving the containers in the drawers open and that means our family has easy-easy access to healthy snacks – all the time!  The Maytag Ice2O is the only refrigerator that has a clear topped snack drawer, too, making it easy to see what’s in there, from the fridge.  It’s sad, I admit, that we wouldn’t eat fruit when it was in a container, in the veggie drawer of our fridge and we will eat it now that all we had to do is open the snack drawer.  But it’s true.  We have eaten so mamy more fruits and veggies since getting our new Maytag Ice2O!  How cool!

More to come, stay tuned!

What an improvement. That refrigerator looks real nice. Is that middle drawer for drinks?
