Have you ever wondered what it’s like to play on a major league baseball field?

What is it like to sit in the press box or the dugout?

What does the famous ivy at Wrigley Field look like up close?

Have you ever followed in the footsteps of one of your childhood heroes?

Rosie and I can answer those questions and more!  Because I’m a MasterCard holder, we were able to attend the “Tour & Play Catch” Priceless Moment event at Wrigley Field on Wednesday.  Wrigley Field is classic sports and classic Chicago.  I was talking to a friend of mine about how it was old and anything-but-glamorous and he said, “but it’s Wrigley“.  Using words like classic and authentic, his voice took on a quality of reverence when talking about this historic field.  Major league baseball and especially Chicago baseball has a place in our hearts.  We grew up in those stands, watching our heroes play.  Almost everyone remembers their first game and who took them.  I’m guessing that 99% of the time it was family.  And that’s what we all remember about baseball and what we feel about the experience – it’s family.

#PricelessChicago #MC Tour

The “Tour & Play Catch” experience is just one of the MasterCard Priceless opportunities available exclusively to MasterCard holders.  These events are unique, opportunities to do something out of the ordinary.  Often MasterCard Priceless experiences provide access to people or places that are not open to the general public.

#PricelessChicago #MC Play Ball at Wrigley Field

At the end of our tour, we went out onto the field and… *can-you-hear-the umpire-say-it*?  PLAY BALL!  I can’t wait until my daughter watches a Cubs game next year and can say, “I played on that field!”

The tour itself was fascinating.  We started in the bleachers where I learned that the ledge was made at a slant so it would be impossible to walk on.  Those “Bleacher Bums” used to have races along the former, flat ledge and too many ended up at a nearby hospital!  Shhh, no beer involved, I’m sure, ahem, ahem.

#PricelessChicago #MC Press Box Collage

We went up into the press box and I got to see the same view that Jack Brickhouse, Ron Santo and Harry Carey saw for years.  There was a picture in the hallway outside of President Reagan and Harry Carey in the press box.  History.  Wow.

#PricelessChicago #MC Dugout and Locker Room Collage

My favorite part was “walking in the footsteps” of the players.  We got to see where the players enter into the ball park.  Where they go into the locker room.  The locker room itself and then out onto the field.  (There’s a surprising, um, facilities, on the way that you will have to take the tour to see.  I took a picture but my blog is “G” rated, so I’m not gonna post it)  My daughter and I sat in the dugout!  The same dugout where Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, Billy Williams, Ryne Sandburg, Mark Grace and Fergie Jenkins spent countless summer days.  How cool is that?

There are many different sports, shopping, music, and food events open only to MasterCard holders in the Priceless Cities experiences.  Be sure to take a look at the website for a city near you and sign up for emails so you won’t miss the one that ‘s perfect for you.  Because they are usually private, small events, many of them sell out quickly, so don’t hesitate!

It’s interesting to visit the site and to read about all the possibilities.  This is the third Priceless Chicago event I’ve attended and I know it won’t be the last.  There is something intrinsically fascinating about unique experiences like these.  It’s very easy to sign up.

Here’s an example of a Dining opportunity – a meal for two at Takito Kitchen in Chicago.  “MasterCard® cardholders are invited to this Wicker Park hotspot for a “Margarita Madness Dinner” for two. With two margaritas per person, you’ll be able to sample all four varieties on offer. Start with the traditional Takito or Cucumber, then spice things up with the Caliente (lime, agave, chipotle, morita, Cointreau and Corazón Blanco) or a seasonal margarita. Handmade tortillas come stuffed with everything from crispy redfish, beef barbacoa and chicken pepian to Maple Creek Farms pork belly with morita salsa, fresh mozzarella, pickled onions and Urban Till arugula. Between the inventive cocktails and the mouthwatering tacos, this is a meal you won’t soon forget.”  Click on “Buy Online”, provide your MasterCard number and some basic information and you are ready to go.
