Whew! I had a busy and challenging week last week. We had THREE birthday parties. It was fun but definitely stretched my dieting willpower to its limits. Our family goes out to eat every Friday night and Sunday morning. Add in those three parties, a school field trip, and a lunch meeting and I ate at a restaurant (not Nutrisystem food) every single day last week.
Thanks to the Nutrisystem Eating Out Tips, I still lost 3.4 pounds! Woo-hoo! I’m so excited! I’ve been on Nutrisystem for two weeks now, and I’ve lost 8.6 pounds! Wow. I’m smiling!
Here’s some of the Nutrisystem Eating Out Tips that helped me this week.
Pre-plan
• Don’t save up calories earlier in the day, but make your meal fit into your normal schedule
• Do not starve yourself before going out
• Avoid temptation by considering what you may want to order ahead of time
Many restaurants have their menus and nutrition facts listed on their website. I knew that I would be going to McDonald’s after Rosie’s school field trip to the Fire Station. (I have to share a picture) I looked at the calorie and other information before we left and planned on having the Southwest Salad with no chicken. I brought my own dressing (I like it and it has very few calories). It worked out great! It also gave me an opportunity to spread the word about Nutrisystem and how much I like it so far.
Pace yourself
• Eat slowly (especially in the first 10 minutes) and enjoy
• Try to be the last one to finish
• Take frequent beverage sips
• Leave food on your plate
• Signal the waitperson to remove your plate as soon as you’re finished
On Friday nights, we go to a local “Family” restaurant for dinner with my parents. When our food arrived, I excused myself and went to the restroom. By giving myself a little space and starting later, I found I was able to eat more slowly and not gobble my food. Usually I’m the first one finished and eat much too quickly.
That last tip, to ask the waitperson to remove your plate is an important one for me. I end up eating more than I want to, just because it’s there. Which brings up these last tips:
Redefine fullness
• Don’t equate a bloated feeling or clean plate with fullness
• Give your stomach time to tell your brain it’s full (approx. 20 minutes)
Enjoy the environment
• Try noticing the sights, smells, and music in the air
• Appreciate being waited on and not having to cook or clean up
