What do you use Arm & Hammer Baking Soda for?
We always have a box of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda in our fridge to keep tastes and smells where they belong.   An open box of Arm & Hammer will keep garlic, onions, or fresh holiday herbs from transferring flavors to meats and cheeses in your fridge.  By the way, you should replace the box with a fresh one every month.  There’s even a place to write the date on the box!
In the summer, we also use Arm & Hammer Baking Soda to balance our pool pH. Â If you want more information about that, check out there complete and easy Pool Guide.
Those are pretty common uses, but here are some you may not have heard of!
1. Â Add Some Fizz to a Cocktail/Mocktail
With holiday entertaining coming up soon, I’m looking for ideas that can make beverages special for adults and kids. Â When I read that you can add a pinch of baking soda to your favorite holiday drink and it would add “fizz”, I had to try it!
2. Â Wash Fruits and Vegetables
Even Dr. Oz ( I trust that guy! ) recommends using baking soda to clean your fruits and vegetables. Â Here’s his recipe!
Ingredients
1 cup water
1 cup distilled white vinegar
1 tbsp baking soda
1/2 of a lemon
Directions
Combine all ingredients in a large container. Transfer to a spray bottle with a pump. Spray mixture on produce and let sit for 5 minutes. Scrub and rinse.
I bought some beautiful yellow and red peppers yesterday, but the produce stickers wouldn’t come off cleanly. Â I remembered that baking soda is food-safe and gently abrasive, so I used it to clean the sticky stickers off the peppers!
3. Â Reduce Garbage Can Odors
I just bought a new kitchen trash can for our “new” kitchen and for some reason it smells worse than my old one did. Â I started putting in sprinkle of baking soda when I change the bag and it is much better!
4. Â Polish Silver – flatware, serving pieces, and jewelry!
I love silver but I hate tarnish. Â I try to get my jewelry into the box quickly but once in a while a piece slips my notice and I find it all tarnished. Â Or rushing to get ready for a holiday meal, I pull out the silver flatware and some pieces are blackened. Â Ew. Â But I’m always in a hurry and don’t want to take the time to find the silver polish and clean them. Â Baking soda to the rescue!
Rosie had a blast cleaning my jewelry – I love it when kids have fun doing a “chore”.
5. Â Santa’s Footprints
Did the Jolly Guy leave snowy footprints? Â It will look that way if you use a template and baking soda to lead the way to the gifts! Â When the festivities end, you can vacuum them up and as an added benefit, your carpet will smell fresh!
And a reminder… Arm and Hammer Baking Soda is great to bake with!
