Look at who I was hanging out with yesterday!

“What a nice guy!”, that was the universal sentiment as everyone left the Sears Grilling is Happiness Reception.  Ty Pennington charmed everyone with his easy going manner and sparkling smile.

Charming

Funny

Kind

Caring

Warm

Those were my impressions of this television star/former model/designer/actor/author/ spokesperson.  In fact my first question had to do with the variety of jobs he’s accomplished so successfully.

Kelly:  Of all the different jobs you’ve had in the past, what has been your favorite?

Ty didn’t hesitate for a heartbeat and answered, “Extreme Makeover, of course, has been my favorite.  It’s rare that you get the opportunity to do something that truly changes someone’s life.  Also, the great privilege of working with people who come together to do so much to help others.”

Ty Pennington on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, shouting his trademark phrase, “Move that bus!”

If you know any mommy bloggers, you know we take pictures of everything, from the centerpieces to the food, to the people.  We all had to get our picture with this charming star of so many shows we love.  It was similar to the after-wedding scene, “Okay one more with Aunt Carol.  Cousin Mae would you step out.”  Through the whole thing Ty patiently posed and smiled, making us feel like this was his favorite thing to do on a Friday night – yeah, he’s magic like that.  So I had to ask, one more question.

Kelly:  What do you do, not to laugh when you’re on set and you can’t stop a giggle?

Ty Pennington:  “I usually just laugh and make it a natural moment.”  He went on to say that if something truly makes him laugh, he shares that with the audience, perhaps with an explanation of why it brought out the humor in a situation.

Ty Pennington with the Sears, Grilling is Happiness, bike/grill/cart, um, what would you call that?

“Grilling is Happiness” is the new marketing campaign by Sears that showcases their desire to create relationships with customers and go beyond single transactions.  It includes a website, blog, and more.  Sears is helping all of us create a space in (and outside) of our homes that is warm, inviting, and reflects the personalities of our families.

If you want to meet Ty Pennington, he’s going to be at the Naperville Illinois Ribfest today from noon to six.  He’s joining the grilling and outdoor living authority, Sears!  The Sears tent will have cooking demonstrations, and more!  Television host and author George Hirsch, “Grill Grrrl” Robyn Lindars, and “Burnin’ Love BBQ” chef Perry Perkins will demonstrate their favorite dishes, including healthy meals, quick fixes, desserts, and BBQ classics.  Robyn gave me a hint that she will be doing pizza on the grill!  I can’t wait!  You can even enter to win a grill and other great prizes.  Join the live tweeting during the event from @Sears #GrillingIsHappiness.

I’ll be bringing your more from this event and Ribfest, watch for my post that will also be announcing the KLY winner of the grilling tools giveaway from Sears!
