Wow, I am so excited! I opened the box with my Pure ONE Flow Portable Internet and FM Radio a half hour ago and now I’m listening to great music and typing this post. Seriously. Usually it takes me anywhere from a week to a month to write a review, but I am so excited about this radio, I had to share with you right away.
The ONE Flow plays FM radio, Internet radio, streams music from your computer or can function as a speaker for your iPod. And in less than a half hour, I was able to set it up and start listening! The ONE Flow lets you listen to internet radio, without a computer. You can register and link it to your computer for streaming, but it’s not necessary. The ONE Flow is also portable – you can listen to internet radio anywhere there is a WiFi signal.
From the first time I saw the logo for Pure, I was hooked with the style of this company. As I saw more and more of their products and explored the website, my love for the style continued. Then when I heard the sound quality? It’s officially a tech crush. The ONE flow has a rugged “feel” with it’s rubberized exterior. The screen has a distinct retro feel with the green light and the pixelized display font. With an indentation on the back, it has a “grab and go” feel. The style reminds me of a Jeep – outdoor, gender neutral, active. The buttons are intuitive, you don’t need to read the Quickstart Guide to start playing.
Right now the ONE Flow is playing on my kitchen counter and plugged in to the wall, but I can easily see this radio going everywhere. There is a ChargePAK that lets you use up to 20 hours of battery life.
Why Internet radio?
Pros of Internet Radio
Availability of stations. Even if you live in or near a major metro area like I do, your selection of stations is limited. With internet radio, you have thousands of choices. Really. Thousands. As of today, The Lounge Pure music site, lists 19,215 stations. There are thousands of stations around the world that broadcast on the internet. You can listen to your community talk radio or children’s christian radio from Poland. Or anywhere in between. Thankfully, there are search options – you can narrow your choices by location, genre, or language. One of the benefits of the Pure ONE Flow is the search feature. I found it more convenient to search on my computer (the navigation is just faster) and save favorites into my device folder. But if you don’t want to link your Pure ONE to a computer, you can search right on the radio. It’s great for people who have moved – you can listen to your “home” station from anywhere in the world!
Quality. Because the station’s signal is transmitted through internet connections rather than air waves, the quality is much better and reliable.
Cons of Internet Radio
Start Up and Feel.
All the things that make internet radio awesome, naturally make it different than traditional radio. You don’t just click it on and off – you need to connect to the internet which takes less than a minute, but it’s still not the instant-on you are used to. Because the quality is so much better, it doesn’t have the “feel” of traditional radio. But I remember saying that about vinyl records – digital music with it’s perfection, doesn’t have the “feel” of vinyl. Well, that took about five minutes to get over! I’m guessing it’ll take that long to get over missing the static of traditional radio.

I love how many stations are available! I live in the middle of nowhere, so only have a limited amount of stations. So having 1,000′s of choices of stations, seems incredible to me!
