#1 Top Reason to Clean With Steam: Â You can achieve a sparkling clean without using chemicals.
We’ve all heard about the dangers of using chemical cleaners in our homes, around our kids. Â The instances of asthma is on the rise, allergies are more prevalent now than in the past… Â and we use more chemicals than ever.
I read these stats on one of the websites I read to learn about the benefits of steam cleaning. Â As a disclaimer, I don’t know what their research was but some of this is just common sense. Â “Chemical levels can be up to 70 times higher inside the home that out. Over 100 chemicals commonly found in homes have been linked to allergies, birth defects, cancer, psychological abnormalities, skin reactions, headaches, depression, joint pain, chronic fatigue, chest pains, dizziness, loss of sleep, asthma…the list goes on. Housewives have a 55% higher risk of getting cancer than do women working outside the home. This most likely has to do with the products they use on a daily basis. Nervous disorders and respiratory problems have also been linked to hazardous substances in the home.”
The effect on the environment of using chemical cleaners is also a major concern. Â Where do the chemicals go after we clean? Â Most likely they are going down a drain. Â The chemicals eventually end up into our ground water. Â Water quality affects plants and animals. Â Household chemicals that are released into our waterways are not only killing plants and polluting water but when the water or affected plants are eaten by humans and animals, there is an effect on our entire ecosystem. Â And not only the chemicals themselves, but packaging from household cleaners is filling our landfills.
The bottom line for me is, if I can achieve the same results without chemicals, why wouldn’t I want to use water instead of expensive, chemical products?
#2:  Steam Cleaning deodorizes and sanitizes.
The hot steam used in steam cleaning actually kills odor causing bacteria.  Without any chemicals, steam sanitizes surfaces, killing germs.  Think about a child’s toy bin…  germ city!  Turn your baby’s nursery from a germ sanctuary into a chemical-free sanctuary with steam cleaning.  Steam cleans away things you can’t see, vapor molecules are so hot that they are not only able to extract pathogens like E. Coli and Salmonella from surface pores, but also kill them.
#3: Steam Cleaning Eliminates Allergens in the Home
Pets? Â Can people tell you have a pet as soon as they walk in your front door? Â Steam cleaning will not only clean odor causing bacteria in pet areas, but the hot steam will also kill fleas, their eggs and their larva.
Dust mites?  We all have ’em!  House dust mites are a common cause of asthma and allergic symptoms worldwide.  Did you know they might keep you from getting a good night’s sleep?  Okay, gross warning…  In a 10-week life span, a house dust mite will produce approximately 2,000 fecal particles and an even larger number of partially digested enzyme-covered dust particles.  House dust mites thrive in the indoor environment provided by homes, specifically in bedrooms and kitchens.  EW.  The heat from steam cleaning obliterates dust mites.  Excuse me, I have to stop writing this post for a few hours while I go steam clean.  Can’t wait.
#4 Â Steam Cleaning is Economical
Take a look at the cabinet under your sink, in the kitchen and in the bathroom, in your laundry room. Â If you’re like me, it’s full of products. Â One for stainless, one for granite, one for floors, one for leather, one for bathroom sinks, one for bathroom toilets, one for glass… and on and on. Â Steam cleaning uses water. Â and water. and well, just water.
